X6 muffler delete with exhaust valve actuator
Hi all,
I’ve got a 2017 X6 M50i. Been following the muffler delete mod with great interest. Had my two resonators deleted and replaced with an x-pipe a few weeks back and TBH, hardly any change in sound. I'm now thinking of going with a muffler delete. However, mine has a exhaust valve actuator on the left side of the muffler. Should I try and retain it or is there no point? Thinking if it'll throw up any CEL's if removed. My exhaust guy said there is no point in keeping it as there won't be any silenced path to make it sound different when closed. And keeping it with no muffler, it'll take a lot of abuse from the increased flow and will start to rattle after a while. I appreciate loads of people have done the muffler delete but most seem to have the X5 which doesn't seem to have this exhaust valve actuator unless I'm mistaken. Thank you. |

You are correct that the X5 does not have the valves. You don't have to worry about any CEL's since the flaps have nothing to do with the cats or emissions.
I probably wouldn't worry about trying to retain it unless you go the route of buying an actual exhaust. Otherwise, just hide the wires in case you need to use them in the future. I'd also recommend putting the resonators back in when you do the muffler delete, those will help with the drone and help you keep some refined sound. Make sure to post exhaust videos once you're done!

Thanks Edwardsc1.
I've got the two resonators at home. Might leave the x-pipe for now as it was fabricated in the shop to the required spec so hoping the drone won't be too bad. Will post before/after videos if I go with it. Shop charging me £500 which is expensive but I know they will do a good job with the mandrel bends etc. |
