ok, i looked at it again more calmly after the first time shock..
the back looks like a VW Polo only the polo looks better because of its analogies this backlights work better on the polo. i know, my sister has one.. now the front. that horizontal hood line thats its been going on its fucking it up.. it makes it look very blund, if it was lower connecting the headlights with the grills it would give the impression of a more aggresive front. also there seems to be a sort of crease next to the grill which does not work.. and a couple of people mentioned the VW scirocco?? the scirocco looks extemely good i think, aggresive, wide rear.. finally, i think it looks really bad. i hate this because i'm a big bmw fan but as i said i cannot defend this...

OMG this is a fugly car. BMW has really lost their way. This should have been screened by the outside public before it ever went to metal. I think it ranks up their with the AMC Pacer as one of the ugliest cars to ever come out in my lifetime.
I can't find a single angle I like about it. I have been seriously considering a 1 series to but a turd with wheels would be more appealing than this lump of metal. It definitely doesn't even have looks its mother would love. What were they thinking? Crush the molds and start over before it is too late! |

This isn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, however, it still is mighty ugly. I think it would look a whole lot better with a sportier lower valance and some smaller mirrors. One great thing about it, though, is that it appears that the window switches have returned to their proper position; in the center. Too bad the damn lock switch is still awkwardly placed on the dash.
edit: Just kidding. Unfortunately, it looks like the "window switches" are just fancy ways of altering the vehicle driving characteristics. This car is back to being wholly suck.

with different front and rear lights it may work, hope they make right on the facelift but right now it looks like a mini x1 or something and looking like a suv (or sav or whatever they are called now) isnt a compliment for a sport car.
regarding the interior, am I the only one that finds the interior a little volkswagenish? it looks good, and i certainly like it more than the actual one, but it have its volkswagen feel

I just don't like how it looks too much like the new 5-series...and will look the same as the new 3-series...
What's the point of getting a 1-series anymore? The only reason I like mine was because it looks unique and completely different from the 3-series (minus the BMW iconic touches, ex: grills, kink, lights, etc). The 1-series will just look like a mini 3 series...ew.

MMMhh, maybe it doesn't photograph well. It certainly looks more upscale in dark colour. The interior is a little cluttered though. I'll wait an see it in the flesh...

EU Pedestrian legislation has changed car design and the 1er conforms to the latest and future legislation. The 1er for BMW is a Compact car, and thus in europe you can have a 116i just as later we will get a 135i Sporthatch. If that is what you term "econobox" in the US then you have no worries - The 1er Sporthatch will not be coming to North America. I like the car even though I seen it years ago. What I like about it is that it now showcases identity. In a segment where everyone looks to the benchmark "VW Golf" BMW designers went another route. In reality the car is striking and really brings out all the visible design features in Titanium Silver and lighter metallics. I like the headlights because they are influenced by camera lenses and of course they resort to the latest LED technology. The interior is very premium - quality now is on a higher level and the large fixed screen gives a Premium feel from the larger 6er - The 3er also receives the same idea. Material quality now uses grained high quality plastics and of course leg and head room is much improved for rear passengers. The rear of the car is simple evolutionary design from the E87. BMW 1er (F20) was designed back in 2006/2007. To make an informed decision you have to see the car for itself.
