Because there weren't enough 911 variants already.

Holy shit, I'm laughing my ass off. I don't think most of you guys truly grasp what this is. Porsche continues to be a money-milking machine and its fanboys are so deep in the Kool-Aid they can't even see it. Now they're not just fleecing the dentists and finance guys for paint-to-sample paint, stitching and fake scarcity, they're bilking the motorsports customers who actually helped build the damn reputation of the brand in the first place. You love to see it.

Personally, I do not race GT4 or any of the trophy series, but I have plenty of buddies who do in Arturas, M4s, and the GR Supra, so I have at least some exposure to the cars and what they cost to buy and operate. Pretty much all the cars in this class are around a $250k buy-in depending on spares and support. Even the 718 GT4 RS Clubsport was around $230k, so Porsche coming out with a 911 GT4 car at $375k, which is higher than the roughly $330k Cup car by the way, is just comical. Basically, they took the superior GT4 platform, a mid-engine Cayman, killed it, slapped the GT4 program onto the holy sacred 911 badge, and now Porsche nut-swingers get to pay almost double to compete against other people in the same class. Incredible business model.

This should be really interesting to watch. If you want to be Mr. Porschaaaa and rep the brand you love so much in GT4, now you get to pay 911 money for a car replacing the superior Cayman platform, with the 911’s packaging and weight-distribution bullshit baked in.

+1
Yup, a straight-up VW Board, 'beancounter' move to recoup $XXXM invested for their massive, failed EV strat...gotta somehow recover, find cost-savings. Sooooo...
> Go to cash-cow...dial 9-1-1
Here's to Porsche pimpin' "fanboys" who will line up to gaily acquiesce...

This would have been priced along side the Ferrari testarossa and Lamborghini Diablo back in the day. Seems pretty legit tbh.

It'll sell. Bring it on.

It will sell, yes. But, I dunno - isnt it tempting for buyers in this segment to just go with a Lambo/Ferrari/McLaren?

And, the number of variants and strange up-charging seems insane. Of course, my poor ass neednt worry. Ill muddle along with my non-M car 240i.

Last month, Porsche CEO Michael Leiters said the company plans to produce at a lower capacity than the roughly 280,000 cars sold last year. He stated that the company must "make money with fewer cars."
