Still no wipes or hand sanitizer at Walmart, and only 4-packs of tiny roll TP (one per customer), but plenty of everything else. Bananas and almond milk are back in stock.
Now that loads of folks are out of work or working from home, it was fairly busy. About like a normal Saturday BC (Before Covid-19). You had to walk through a roped off entry way and there was a guy there who would limit the number of customers in the store at once, but they must not have hit the limit because I walked right in. They had a team sanitizing carts and handing them off, which is a great idea. I grabbed what I needed and did self checkout, so it was no big deal. The local smaller supermarket was less crowded and I got the few things I couldn't get at Walmart. And the local liquor store is drive-thru only, so I stopped to grab a couple bottles of Jameson's. Mission accomplished for another week or so.

I was in 4 stores today.
Store 1: Walmart (my dad insists I shop there for him). A disaster area. Shelves empty everywhere, dozens of people emptying them even more rapidly to fill online or called in orders, just a general feeling of mayhem. Worst of all the place was crawling with FAMILIES -- mom, dad, all the kids, everyone wandering around and picking stuff up and yammering on their phones and generally acting astoundingly stupid re social distancing. There I am by myself, doing the shopping for two families, and I have to deal with that? Sorry dad, not again. Store 2 and 3 were local supermarket chains. Much better stocked, no sight of college kids picking orders for invisible customers, no 7-person clans shopping for a single household. Stocks weren't bad, out of the usual stuff but pretty good overall. Store 4 was a little mom & pop bakery that had closed but just recently reopened. They were limiting the number of people inside at one time. There was a line out on the sidewalk waiting to get in. It was heartwarming to see at least one small business that might survive this mess. And my dad got his favorite bread in the whole world. |

You can literally get blind drunk on it.
At least once, anyway.

Went to local costco today. New lockdown social distancing regulations meant longer lines (around the store) so spent 50 minutes to get in. Once inside, still hard to stay away from people in the aisles. Still out of gloves, wipes and a bunch of other preventative items. Everything else was well stocked but staples like rice, beans, eggs and dairy were qty limited.
They’ve put up barriers for cashiers and receipt checkers, but even though I put all my items barcode up in the cart, they messed with a bunch of it unnecessarily. I may end up throwing out the strawberries they picked up, mishandled, and ended up spilling half of them before stuffing them all back in the plastic carton. |

Wifey went foraging again this morning. Found the meat cases fully restocked, pasta was 50%. Still no cleaning supplies or paper products. Went to a second 'hunting ground' and found TP with a 1-pack limit.
While not completely back to normal, it's far better than 2-3 weeks ago. |
