Update: Confirmed - FWD BMW 1 Series Concept Active Tourer (GT) Revealed
BIMMERPOST NEWS Update: Confirmed - FWD BMW 1 Series Concept Active Tourer (GT) UPDATE: This has been confirmed to be the FWD 1 Series Concept Active Tourer which will be revealed online later today. Stay tuned! The online reveal for the FWD 1 Series GT (Compactive Tourer) concept is imminent (stay tuned...), so has Auto Bild magazine just leaked the first image? The image doesn't seem to have the artificial qualities and proportions that most speculative renders have and is extremely detailed, so this may be a true leak of the actual concept 1 Series GT. For a preview of what the rear tail lights will look like, that can be seen in these recently leaked designs. The FWD 1 Series GT or "Compactive Tourer," as it has been referred to will be the first model in BMW's upcoming lineup of FWD 1 series cars. It will make its world public premiere at the 2012 Paris autoshow late this month. The FWD 1 series models will ride on the UKL platform, which they will share with the upcoming MINI models. The production 1 Series GT Compactive Tourer will hit the market sometime in 2013. The FWD 1-series models will join the rest of the 1-series lineup which in the next generation is expected to go all FWD. Meanwhile, the F22 coupe and F23 cabrio (both RWD) are likely to be badged as "2-series". Will the FWD 1 Series be destined for the US? If Ian Robertson's (BMW AG's board member for sales and marketing) words from the Paris auto show in September 2010 still holds true, these vehicles will have a four-cylinder engine in the United States at launch. Base on that image. As a f20 owner, i would say it looks more defined and has a greater presence in the front.
But I have this subtle voice in me that said, why does it resemble a Mercedes A and B class in some way at the back? Correct me if I'm wrong.

If that's a render (and not the real thing), someone hire that artist!
I think it looks great. Not everyone needs to drive around in the M5. And given just how good most Minis drive, I'm sure BMW will make this pretty fun to scoot around in. |

Aiming for the mass market, the BMW designers have not taken any chances here. Looks very conservative, and similar to the other cars in the same segment. It will blend more into the traffic than the F20. Not exactly a car for the enthusiasts, but the looks should not scare anybody from buying it.

If that's how it really looks it's gonna be a winner. Looks great! Not one off-putting design feature. Not one. For a compact van type vehicle it is pretty good looking. I hope that's the real deal

Looks like it's going to run someone over...angry much? Liking the very aggressive front fascia. A lot.

Wow, that looks good and in the hatchback space (VW golf, Audi A3) it might be very competitive if the exterior remains up to production with mini like driving characteristics.
This brings me to a couple of question, why couldn't BMW apply this front facia especially the headlights to the new BMW 1 series? We're they trying to retain the bug eyed look from the previous version? This concept if the real deal, is better looking than the current one. Last edited by cjwb1984; 09-13-2012 at 11:23 AM.. |
