BIMMERPOST NEWSLeaked: FWD 1 Series Compactive Tourer Tail Light Design The FWD 1 Series "Compactive Tourer," - the first model in BMW's upcoming lineup of FWD 1 series cars, will be making its world public premiere at the 2012 Paris autoshow in late September, but a purported design diagram of its rear lights has now been revealed. The FWD 1 series models ride on the UKL platform, which it will share with the upcoming MINI models. It will hit the market sometime in 2013. Its tail lights appear to feature the floating light bar design seen in recent BMW models. The circular hole behind the light bars will house the brake light and the holes at the bottom of the lights are likely indicator and reverse bulbs. The FWD 1-series models will join the rest of the 1-series lineup which in the next generation is expected to go all FWD. Meanwhile, the F22 coupe and F23 cabrio (both RWD) are likely to be badged as "2-series". Will the FWD 1 Series be destined for the US? If Ian Robertson's (BMW AG's board member for sales and marketing) words from the Paris auto show in September 2010 still holds true, these vehicles will have a four-cylinder engine in the United States at launch. At the time he made those comments, Robertson also indicated that he expected significant volume from BMW's future small car lineup, with sales of 100,000 vehicles worldwide a year. And how will they perform? If MINIs are any judge, these should not be considered "entry level" performance wise, but serious, refined, sporting engined cars. Share this story |

I dislike that BMW keeps putting non-LED's in the pre-lci and then LED's in the LCI. They should just embrace it and go all LED on all cars...

WTF is going on BMW? FWD???? Who cares as long as you give the US an M2 with a badass engine, not a hopped up N20.

BREAKING NEWS: TAIL LIGHT DESIGN LEAKED
![]() But ya, FWD... seriously BMW? Does it really cost that much more for a little bit extra steel down the middle? Your slogan is "Ultimate Driving Machine." Does FWD fit that moniker? I'll answer that for you: No. |

I hardly take these leaks as real leaks... This is BMW revealing, unofficially of course, the 1er GT taillight. Just to get people taking about it and ultimately people taking about the BREAKING NEWS THAT REVOLUTIONIZE THE FWD MARKET
. Hopefully, they will not succeed this time, at least here on bimmerpost.

Funny how people say nothing when Porsche, Mercedes or Audi does something like this.
The more I read these comments (especially from 3er nazis) the more I think BMW: The Ultimate Douchebag's Driving Machine. |

I regret not keeping some of the old BMW leaflets about the superiority of standard drive, where they are mocking FWD. ![]() |

Not just a bit of steel down the middle though. RWD means big engine bay and big transmission tunnel. FWD means all mechanicals under the front end and much more cabin and boot space. FWD is the only option if BMW want to produce a VW Golf rival that could sell VW Golf numbers. For most European buyers the RWD 1series is too small inside the cabin. Cars like the Golf and Audi A3 are smaller but have more cabin space and can comfortably fit three in the back. As long as BMW offer a choice of FWD, RWD and AWD I can't really see the issue. Merc have openly stated they want to attract the buyers from the small family car sector which is why the new A class is FWD. BMW want a share of that segmant, they already have a good FWD footing in the market with the mini brand. The RWD 1 series sells mainly to those who value driving dynamics over practicality like myself but the market for a well packaged premium FWD hatch is much larger and it's one of the fastest growing sectors in Europe as families down size. BMW want a chunk of that market, simple. Cheers Lee |

A FWD BMW!? Ya... No Thank you! You can keep those FWD cars in Europe! But please don't bring them to the US -_____--- Looks like BMW is starting to go downhill!
Can't imagine BMW being FWD. You guys were known to have great handling with your RWD and AWD cars... Don't go FWD!!! ![]()

The more stupid models BMW makes... The less it's quality will be.. I mean seriously, has anyone sat in the new x1 or 3 series?!?! The materials feel like they were purchased at wal-mart... Soo sad

Is compactive tourer like 1 series version of GT? Because 1 series 3 door and 5 door hatchbacks came out only last year
I'd love to see renderings based on the leaked pictures of rear taillights |
