This looks like something Subaru would have designed. Makes sense as a subie. Very homely looking. But man that's one ugly car even Subaru designers would shed away from.
Is it me or does the front end looks like it has down syndrome or something? Kinda...you know...retarded looking. Just missing the drool. |

I should actually agree with you,,but no. Audi design philosophy is something I call OVERDONE & UNBALANCE.
Ohh man,,, maybe something is really wrong with me. Yesterday,, when the first time I saw these official pictures,,I thought it looks kindda ugly,,too cute,,VW polo like,,something is not right,,, i did not see the way that it will grow on me at all (but still little hope for M-sport),,,HOWEVER,,,THINGS CHANGE!! WTF?! I don't know why but after I zoomed in to those sport line pictures and took a look for a little while,,,my mind just came up with,,,"WTF? Why do I kindda start to like it?" I know that headlight is still kindda weird,,,look like it is kindda TOO BIG,,off proportion,,,but I think It actually fit the car,,also as the taillight,,,very VW Polo,,,but once I look at it as a whole,,I just thinkk,,umm,,not badd,,,still,, It is really hard to explain why the hel in the world i'm starting to like it,,, I really think that it will looks better on person + M-Sport will do it. |

YUK!
And the irony is that everyone will buy them, just like the Bangle stuff! Why can't BMW just steal a designer or two from Audi? Or Audi, steal a rear wheel drive chief engineer from BMW? |

Wow. I can't believe I'm typing this, but this a first for me. I really really hate the design.
I've always liked BMW's designs...to some less than others (such as the current 1 series), but this is probably the first time that I have actually felt nothing but repulsion. It's those headlights and the front end. I like the interior and I could live with the rather bland taillights/rear end since it's an entry level Bimmer, but those headlights are such a departure from all that is sacred...WTF??? I was really looking forward to the new design considering the 5 series is so awesome and is such a huge success already. Why not use use that winning formula in a smaller/lighter package?? To me, it seemed like a blatantly obvious cash cow...but they missed it and missed it horribly. I've lost hope for the 2's and fear for the worst with the 3's. |

Well this was obviously made to non-American market and I'm very happy for that. This is a HUGE improvement to the old 1-series and the interior is very fresh and cool! I just wish the car taxes on this side of the pond would be like on the other side so that BMW wouldn't have to make any decision to please the North Americans...

1 out of 5 for looks. Even inside is not special, it has copied the relatively cheaper Audi A1.
There's something not right about the front end, this car is suicide by BMW in the premium hatch sector. |

I see more 1-series 5 doors (hatch-backs) than any other BMW. In my opinion, this is an improvement (has a chance to complete with the A3).
What's the deal with the key? Has BMW followed the 1986 Saab 900's lead by placing the key hole in the center console? One other comment: Looks like the window switches are back on the center console. Nice. |

Seriously?
I am not one to give even a second thought about the looks of a car. I pride myself in being about performance, and nothing else. Until now, I would never have decided to buy, or not to buy, a car based on aesthetics. But now, June 3, 2011, I can say without hesitation: Even if this was the best driving car on the planet, I would not buy it because it is simply too ridiculously ugly to drive. I half think we're going to find out tomorrow this was a joke, or that someone hacked into the BMW website, photoshopped photos of the real car and released it on an unsuspecting public.
If I had BMW stock, I'd be selling it.

The New Pictures are a Bit better... But really just a Bit... What happends to the older Frontend? Looks Way better then the One on the newer pics!!!
I think BMW gonna read Forums like this and get those New Pictures online pretty Quick... @BMW --> BRING THAT CAR AT LEAST WITH THE OLDER, RENDERED FRONTEND!!! @that Car looked European... BS... This Car looks (Atm) like " Jack (out) of the Box" ... Its just like the 5er GT... It just Look propper with 20" Rims, that cant Be right on a compact Car! They make the same "off" Sizes like Peugeot did with the 308cc ... You cant put Wheels in those Size at the Car that fits the proportions...

I hope they do something significantly different with the 2-series or whatever the coupe is called. it might grow on us, might look better in person, but I think for most people they see it in pictures and if these are the best angles I'm not sure why they went with this look. there is too
much space between the weird headlights and the too small grille. the back looks too much the same but worse as the old hatch.
