Tire Protection

I will be taking delivery of my 428xi M sport in a few weeks. I am undecided as to get the tire insurance or not. I was quoted 1295 for a 36 month lease. Regular price was 1395. I did not try to negotiate yet. What is everyone paying and have you utilized the insurance yet? I drive mostly in the Long Island area (Nassau County). 1295 just seems real high. Thanks in advance!

I think I paid a lot more... I would say since you live in NYC take it!

yeah I got it from rally for 1350, negotiated for 5 minutes on it. havent had to use it yet, surprisingly this suspension is much better then the e90. I'd still get it again though, do it, one damaged rim and you're halfway there.

Is it the one directly from BMW or the third party protection they offer? How long ago was this? The one directly from BMW is 1695. Crazy thing is for 5 years of coverage its 100 more. The finance guy told me he know it doesn't make sense. Thanks.

its from bmw, the finance guy called me and asked me if I wanted any additional items, told him only thing I might be interested in is the tire insurance, and he barely fought me when I said 1350. I don't think it was as much as you're being quoted.

good luck

I paid $890 5 years ago for my first wheel and tire protection, and subsequently $1200 on 2 other vehicles. The price increased the past few years, $1200 is about the norm for a full protection policy meaning rims, tires, and cosmetics

Paid 1350 and I thought it seemed pricey. Sounds like it wasn't such a bad deal.

Does the bmw protection make you pay out of pocket first?

It used to be very cheap years ago, now the standard is about $1200-1300. They WILL try to rip you off though. Again, any dollar they can squeeze out of you they will, especially since these prices aren't "advertised"

I always do it. I think the "BMW" branded one is actually Safe Gard and the cheaper one is Allstate.

I think Safe Gard reimburses on the spot regardless of location.

Allstate reimburses your out-of-pocket expenses unless it is the dealer you bought the plan from.

There were other small differences in coverage but what I was most worried about was repairing rims bent or chipped from potholes.

In my opinion don't spend the money, my reasoning:

I have a 36 month lease.......

Pirelli's come with a manufactures 1 Year full road hazard replacement, then something like 60 % for the second year and 40% for the 3rd year

I have had to replace 1 rim in the last 15 years of driving (pot hole)

BMW does not cover cosmetic damage

Had a flat (nail) after 6 weeks, total cost for new tire was $65 for install, so I figure I'm still $1400 ahead in my pocket

lastly, I rather spend $800 for a brand new set of tires 24 months into the lease so that I know that I'm driving on good tires through the entire 36 months, instead of worrying if I drive on the originals for the full 36 months will the dealer say they are not within the return guidelines and want to charge me $1800 at the lease termination
