BMW going down
I am not talking about single article on a magazine but lately NUMEROUS articles had BMW actually losing against Audi. I remember BMW always crushing Audis on a comparo all the time.
Nowadays Audi is substantially more competitive against BMW in terms of performance and design. Heck, I even saw BMW losing on to Audi on STEERING FEEL catagory. I am hardcore BMW fan but what the hell? BMW is slowly losing ground and I am afraid Audi will slowly pass BMW by. With all these wacky models (such as gran coupe sh*t) BMW is getting watered down, seriously. Someone tell BMW! |

They are moving to the masses over purists. Money talks which makes us walk...To somebody who is either the underdog or gives us what we want. We, the automotive purists will thin out over fanboys.

I'm getting a MB next too. It's quite funny, MB is going to go the route of the old BMW and take performance seriously. MB definitely knows how to do it right and please everyone. Their performance and luxury versions are better marketed than BMW's own Modern, Sport, Luxury lines.

I feel BMW is not a leader anymore;they just follow.... Little 4-cyl engines, hybrids, electrics!!!!, cars are feeling less connected to the road than ever. BMW always had that touch that made it different .... Not anymore:..

I think in the mid to long run this will backfire on bmw. Reason I say this is they will be now selling bmw brand to larger segment of people coming from other brands, mostly Japanese cars. Well they are going to be very alarmed when they realize bmw just doesn't have the reliability that they are used to.

Every car brand went through the same. This is them exploring new markets. They will change as soon as they see that this isn't working. About the 4cyl engine, well audi has been using a turbo 4cyl for years. This is just a race, which one will loose and change direction.

Turbo 4cyl are the best thing that happened to entry level BMWs. For the enthusiast you no longer have to spend an arm and a leg for noticeable power gains and its just plain easier to make big power starting off with a power plant built from the ground up with forced induction. For BMW EPA standards and gas mileage targets will be much easier to meet with 2.0L turbo 4cyl. A 2.0T has worked for damn near EVERYBODY.
As for magazine test. Since about 1990 I've been reading in all the major car magazines how much better the BMW chassis and driving experience was compared to the competition and watching it (no matter the model/year) win nearly every comparison. You can imagine how stoked I was when I got my e92 335i to experience this magic. After owning it 6 months now (complete with coilovers at this point) I'm now convinced payola HAD to be going on. Its okay but its hardly the razor sharp carving device I was led to believe. If the F30 is less sharp and connected than this its no wonder Audi is winning comparisons. My MKV GTI was just plain more fun to drive than the e92. It sure is pretty though! |

imho when the world economy improves, so will BMW.
They never did anything before for the sake of doing it. For example, the F3x 335's exhaust, where it's just a muffler turned sideways with 2 outlets, like a Pontiac G6 or a Dodge Neon. It's just a sign of the times. Or, stamped steel control arms like a Honda Civic or Fit. BMW knows better, but they have constraints too. A 328 would be 65k if they built them like they did in 2006-2010. A N54 exhaust system is a perfect example of when engineers had free rein. It's over 6k retail before installation, you can't do that in 2014, i.e. the muffler turned sideways for looks alone. |

I'm just hoping that one day, the non-turbo 6-cylinder returns to their cars. For me, that is one of the main reasons to drive BMW. |

The new upcoming C class looks far more promising than the 3 series right now. They even did a facelift on the E class to better compete with the 5 series. It looks so much more aggressive. I really enjoyed the different modes you can set if you want comfort or sport. It'll actually handle itself quite good compared to the boat like feeling in the past.

The 2.0T are a total JOKE. Not only do they kill the driving experience, but their results are questionable. It is not for nothing that Honda / Toyota / Nissan stick to their V6. The truth is that they don't cost more in fuel ($) and the driving experience of a V6 can't be matched with a 4. Shame BMW, SHAME. |

This happens every generation, people with e46s said it about e9xs and not the e9xs are saying it about the Fs. Correct me if Im wrong but isn't the M4 lighter than the e92M which would be going in the right direction.

You are correct every generation gets criticized about the new look, but handling? The F30 is the first I think.
