Interestingly with this color, the headlights didn't bother me much....himm.

Compared to the new Astra GTC this thing looks like a turd indeed. Such a missed opportunity for BMW :-(

I've really grown to like it....I'm not afraid to admit it

I wish they were bringing this to the US

It really looks a lot better in this color and in video. Not sure why exactly... maybe it diminishes the size of those headlights. In 3 years when my lease comes up, I might be able to weigh this against the redesigned A3.

Too bad they won't bring the hatch to the USA

I really like this new 1 series. But it doesn't follow the design cues of the current new generation BMW's (7, 5, 6). This one is a totally different approach and I really like where the design is going as we are seeing more and more BMW CS concept elements implemented.

I am very angry and dissapointed with this design and really I cannot see the reason why they had to make it look as bad as this.

He's probably on heavy drugs imo.

Seriously, between boring (F10) and this "fugly" F20, the latter is the one who will look fresh and new for a longer period of time.
Just look at E60, bashed when it came, it still doesn't look old to this day, despite it came as early as 2003.

Besides, there is a difference in seeing something live and on picture.
BMW have a presence that's only comes to life seeing it with your own eyes, on pictures it's just not working as well, give it a chance i'd say.

I think it is funny how a few days ago this was the ugliest car ever and now people are starting to like it. Sure, some people are still expressing their displeasure but most were just following along with the hate and it is now turning into a positive.

I think it is a car that I would be hesitant to buy (old one too) but I have no strong opinion because I will likely never have that decision to make since it isn't coming to the US.

I am interested in the design cues from several models though. My plan is to keep my 128 for several years and get a 3-series in the 2nd production year of the next model; possibly the M3 whenever that comes out. However, the best laud plans...

Oh come on guys, I am not disputing which one is the better car, I'm talking about design here and the F20 looks like an ugly piece of shit - in my eyes at least! Also, whenever you hear "lets see it in the flesh first to pass judgment" = subtle way to avoid saying it looks like shit imo. A good looking car looks good even on toilet paper so I don't buy that.

Sorry for my language but I am fuming. This is a disaster. Audi must be having a laugh with this, they don't even have to try to better it with their new A3 now. I mean seriously would anyone pick that car over a new A3 unless you are an enthusiast?

I wish somehow BMW take notice of the overwhelmingly negative reception and does SOMETHING to rectify this monstrosity (if possible at this stage). This thing is HIDEOUS!

That's why the M-Sport package is already shown around. I'm sure they are very aware of the negative reception but it's too late now.

And sales will prove this.

That looks like the Renault Megane RS, especially in yellow, such an unoriginal design. At least the 1er looks original.

I agree with that, the rear looks a lot like the Megane Coupe even though it is more elegant imo. But still so much better than the 1er.

There is no relationship between this car and the 1M
if you're looking for evolutionary links.

BMW threw the book out on the 1 Series and came up with
this "cute" concoction.

Very generic. Very bland. Ugly based on BMW standards.

This car is officially for girls. Sorry, "Adam and Freddy Lund"
you won't be able to "man-this-car-up" no matter what you do.

The Astra GTC you are comparing to will be more of a comparison to the 1 coupe when it comes out, you are not comparing eggs with eggs!

Your comment regarding low sales will come back to haunt you, it will prove to be very popular and a number of people are already enquiring about it.
A lot of current 1 series customers are saying that the overall shape has not changed that much which is a good thing to them.

I am not an Audi fan at all but the A3 looks miles better than this. It is not an eyesore and is very pleasing to the eye. Not many people will be interested in the ideas behind a design if the final product ends up being so ugly. I don't see anything working well here. It is just an ugly mess. I really fail to see anything attractive no matter how "evolutionary" design ideas it incorporates. The front is already discussed to death but what pisses me even more is that they didn't bother with the rear either! It is so mediocre and bland it's outraging. There was so much opportunity in that shape and look what they came up with!
