usb drive in glove box help!

just put one in with music and car doesnt detect it? any ideas why this would happen ? does the drive need to have just music on it saved in the root directory? eg no subfolders etc? does it need to be a certain type of drive??

I had a similar issue with USB in the glovebox trying to transfer profiles. What worked for me:

1. Car was running, not just "on".
2. Pressed "save profile" and waited until it said "insert drive" and then inserted it and tried again.
3. Made sure it was formatted FAT 32.

Try that and see if it works.

I don't have a USB in the glovebox--new 535i delivered end of March. USB in center console works fine.

now that I have successfully imported/exported music via glovebox USB, can music be played from the USB port in the glovebox if it's FAT32 formatted?

The import/export option can be access by selecting cd/dvd option, when the CD/DVD icon (doesnt matter if its playing or not) is displayed push iDrive controller to the right to get the next level of menu which ths options menu and then selecting import/export.

I used a 4Gb USB device formated in FAT 32 connected to the USB in the Glove Box. The key fob is not in the ignition, just opened the car and pressed the volume control on the radio to turn, then inserted the USB device. The Car is a March 2010 520d SE Touring model F11
