Am I crazy? or....

Lately, I've been obsessing about getting a side by side and as you probably know, they're not cheap....I'm looking at the Can Am Maverick R Max of the Polaris Pro R Ultimate...$40-50K range.

Unfortunately, the boss lady says I'd have to sell the other toy if I really want to do it....not exactly millionaires yet

So, I figure I could sell my pride and joy 2010 Audi R8 gated manual and get the SxS and a used gen2 Raptor for what the R8 would likely fetch.

Would I be crazy to do that, or just pull the trigger and do it?

They are fun but will you use it enough to justify selling the R8?

that seems to be the issue with my R8 these days.....just not driving it much anymore, it is a garage queen....think I'd have much more fun ripping up trails and the dunes in a side by side.

highly likely a bad financial decision, but yolo

R8 is a great car, but it just is not that exciting to look at anymore - if you are not driving it enough, you should sell it and take advantage of the prices they are still fetching.

SxS, Raptor, Jeeps (I have a g87 and a Rubicon on 37s that I offroad often), etc are a lot of fun, and you can take friends and family, not just 1 person.

Agree that if you have fell out of love with your ride then change it out maybe for something with a bit more space., Jay Leno has a huge collection of garage queen cars and bikes and it doesn't seem to bother him.

I'd look at it like this..Whats the probability you get one, have fun with it for a few years, then it sits like the car? If this probability is high - an R8 sitting in the garage is worth more than a go-cart. The R8 will appreciate at some point along the way where the side by side will not. I'd say sell the wife's car! Hahaha

I personally would not get rid of a manual R8 for a UTV, but I could see why you want one. They're cool.

The only option is divorce.

Yep - full on nuts!

If you can't swing $40-50K discretionary spending without inconvenience, dumping that much money into a SxS is probably not the smartest move.

OTOH, if you don't drive R8 anymore, cashing out of it at the top of the market might be justified.
But buying 2 off-roaders to replace it? Hardly!

Crazy, insane, ludicrous and deranged.

Very poor exchange imo. Money has nothing to do with it.

I'd get rid of the Jeep instead (cough, cough, cough, says a Bronco owner... ) and buy the RZR.

That RZR is just too cool looking to pass up.

As a certified missouri redneck that's been riding four wheelers and dirt bikes for about 25 years i can confidently say that a side by side is way more fun than a garage queen car, BUT only if youre actually going to get out and use the thing. You need some friends or a partner that wants to come along. No offroading trip is fun without the homies. I fear that if you dont have friends to go with, the SXS is going to spend just as much if not more time in the garage than your R8.

And you dont have the get a $40k SXS to have fun, my dad has a lil Yamaha Rhino utility SXS and even that thing is a blast in the trails! You can get those for $2-5k all day long on Facebook marketplace. The high dollar performance SXS are really sick though.

If it were me I'd keep the R8 and buy a $10k used RZR. If youve got gated manual R8 garage queen money then youve got $10k to spare for a used RZR. Just need to convince the wife of this lol.

Do you have places nearby to drive the RZR? Do you have a way of hauling it?

Yeah, I am torn....the fantasy of the side by side might not be the reality.

Not yet retired, so really don't know how many days I'd actually get per year to use it...but dammit I want one and would probably enjoy the shit out of it.

Other option, would be sell the R8, get the RZR or the Maverick R and a $30-40K sports car with a manual to still enjoy the sports car instead of the Raptor since I already have the Bronco which can tow 3500 lbs

good advice...yeah, there are some of the best places in the US for these things within 1-3 hours drive(Glamis, Ocotillo, etc) I have a Bronco that can tow up to 3500 lbs, but that would be pushing the limits...

I've got some different options running through the meat computer trying to figure out a way to keep the R8

I have Jedi mind tricked the wifey before with stuff like this

Yes, you are absolutely crazy for selling a gated manual R8 for that.

Oh, shit, that's right! I forgot.

That RZR is too cool looking. Looks like a bass ass bug (insect - not the VW...) on wheels.

Best answer.

It’s going to be like buying a boat. You have two great days with a boat. The day you buy it and the day you sell it.
