Production Delay
Hi,
Ordered a 2019 X1, M Package. Order confirmed on 04/23. I was given a build week as week 18 (April 29-May 3) by calling BMW NA. The circle moved on the My BMW website. Cool. The week after, the status changed back to ordered but not in production. My CA said all they knew was production was to start in May. I called BMW NA again. Hmmm, they said. It is odd it was listed as starting production but now was not. They put me on hold and came back and said maybe a recall had something to do with it. I asked how a recall could be in effect for a vehicle that had not been built yet. I got an apology. I called today. No production, no reason for the delay, and nothing else. What's up? Mostly curious, but don't like the mixed messages. Thanks for your advice. Peace. |

Thanks for the info. Good to know. I searched yesterday but found nothing. After Skyline 2.0's post I searched again and found:
https://news.yahoo.com/bmw-x1-recall...203058852.html https://www.cars.com/articles/2016-2...-alert-402612/ The recall is for 106,182 X1 SUVs built from March 10, 2015, through May 2, 2019. My production week was April 29-May 3rd. Current owners will begin to be contacted on July 2nd because BMW is still working on a solution, which will need to be tested. I don't think I will be getting the X1 anytime soon . Contemplating cancelling the order and holding off for a 2020. Any thoughts? Last edited by DocWho; 05-17-2019 at 09:44 PM.. |

It's failing a US NHTSA requirement, it's not an actual bad or failing component, so it may not be addressed anywhere other than the US. |

I would stick to the 2019 too....Not sure I like the new Buck Tooth Grill of the 2020. You should look up guys and garages that modify BMW's. There are a lot of hidden features in the ECU that you can add to your X1 like the auto folding and unfolding mirrors, lighting inside and out. The digital display in the dash etc. It's just amazing the stuff that's hidden in the software programming. It's pretty cool what a tuner can do with proper software, a laptop and an OBD II connector.

I have just ordered new version sDrive20i Sport to replace my 2016XDrive20D and they quoted August for delivery. Seems a bit optimistic if yours for September delivery....and I much prefer the look of the new one especially new grille, unlike other contributors.

Today I was informed by my CA that there is not yet a remedy for the B1 pillar issue and production of the 2020s cannot begin until that is resolved. They are eager to push me towards an X3. I think I will wait awhile longer...

We ordered an X1, and the recall was announced the day it shipped from Bremerhaven. After waiting to hear about the *vaporware* remedy, we bought a 2019 X2 m35i. We have been thrilled with our choice.

^^^ I could have picked up a base X3 about the same price of my loaded X1. You can get some standard features on the X3 that are options on the X1. So, the X3 actually offers a little better value considering a more powerful engine if you can live with a bigger vehicle.

I guess that's valid for the US. In my country, similarly spec'd X3 (with same 190hp engine) would have set me back around 10k euros more :/

^^^ This makes sense considering Made in Germany vs Made in USA. All X cars except X1 & X2 are made in the USA. I would buy a German car made in Germany any day of the week.
BTW, an US spec base X3 xDrive30i makes 248 hp while an X1 makes 228 hp. Same torque, but the X3 makes a little more power in the upper RPM range. Last edited by 00max00; 06-25-2019 at 09:49 AM.. |
