Koni Special Active Dampers
Having used the previous fsd units on our R56 Mini, I've decided to have the new sad's installed on the X1 M Sport.
They are on order and will be fitted next week, nice drive back, so will give my review when completed. https://www.koni.com/en-US/Cars/Prod...pecial-Active/ |

Finally got the Koni's fitted by Demon Tweeks, they did a very good job and carried out a complete wheel alignment afterwards.
Drove back 50miles home, across varied road surfaces, speeds and very happy with the results. Short fast, sharp bumps you can hardly tell now, with larger impacts more of a thud, than a whack. Most impressive part, is the car is very flat around bends, with vastly reduced body role and also when both sides of the car are on off cambers, the body would rock, this has all but gone with control when it is rougher. Once I get a few hundred miles on them, Ill see how they have settled in. |

Great to hear good feedback on these. These are not for edc correct? And are for use with factory ride height springs right?
Are you on the 18" or 19" wheels? Runflats or non-runflats? |

It’s a lot tighter as you go from left to right etc, it feels planted and you get less sway. No, so these can only be used with x line or m sport, any after market lowering springs aren’t recommended.

Correct, none edc cars only, designed to provide a similar shock to edc but all mechanically. X line or m sport springs only, I’m on 18” with non-runflats, I do have a winter set with run flats so might give them a go to see how they are.

Click on the link provided by the OP. Click on global distributor. Click on North America and that will take you to the NA Koni's Website. There you enter your X1 info and it will get you the needed info. Can also orders from that site as well. That's what I am planning to do, unless TireRack or other sellers can do it cheaper.

These are for 2 front struts and 2 rear shocks?
That's a phenomenal price if that's the case. |

Frustratingly I need to go back to the garage as the rear has developed an annoying noise when the car gos from left to right or up and down over speed bumps!
I’m guessing the springs aren’t seated right. |

Do you know if the top of the rear shock uses two nuts to torque down the shaft to the shock mount? The KWs are like this even though oem uses a nylock nut. I learned quickly years ago when I first encountered thus on a volvo to use vibratite on the threads so the two nuts would not come loose. This could be the issue if it indeed uses two nuts and they were not torqued properly. And even if they were id recommend some vibratite on the threads.

So the saga continues, took the car in and the tech took it out and said can’t hear anything, so said let me drive and I’ll show you, sure enough it made the noises!
Anyway, checked it all over and was happy with it, so oiled the spring rubbers, no difference. So disconnected the lower shock mount, noise disappeared. So they have ordered a new set for the rear and I have to take the old OEM ones with me and they will fit them, if the noise is present then. Then something has gone out of spec, if it doesn’t try the new set and gets again. Anybody else had problems with different rear shocks? |

Replacement shocks came in so went back to the garage, also with the original shocks.
Turns out after inspection of the OEM vs Koni is he shaft is much larger and the bump stops are dragging on the same. Drilled out both, checked and no more annoying noise from the rear. |
