So much for raising the X1 for winter..

So I got bored the other day and ordered some KW's for our X1. Probably won't have time to install them for at least a couple of weeks. Will post up pics once they're on!

Mine are on a boat bound for the states. Should have mine in a week or so. Ordered Avant Garde wheels with custom fitment.

Forgot to add, I also went ahead and ordered adjustable rear control arms to better align the rears for cambering issues. I may or not need them depending on how much adjustment is allowed with the stock pivot bolts.

Cool. What did you go with that they are on a boat? I was surprised these showed up so fast. I ordered on Friday and they showed up on Monday.

I went through ECS and they were a direct ship from KW. Mine wont be on for another couple weeks. Avant Garde says about 14 days of machining and finishing and was planning to put wheels and suspension on in one go.

Also did you catch that there is a rebate from KW... here is the link in case you missed it.

Gotcha. I went direct thru kw.

Yep already sent in my rebate stuff. We will see how it goes. I'm hoping to install these things in the next few weeks before my real project gets back in the garage.

Yea factory twin five spoke 18s. Not sure how the thing is going to look but I have to wait until the tires are done until I can think about different wheels. I also have our 18" winter wheels which have a slightly more aggressive offset that I'll get to see in the winter.

KW's are going in!

Had some time tonight so I started installing these. Rear's are going in easy. Got one side done. Hoping to finish up tomorrow evening if I have enough time!

Here's a shot of the side I did this evening and a comparison shot of the KW shock vs. OEM.

Finished up.

First two shots are right off the lift. The last photo is with final adjustments made for the night. Scheduling alignment for next Friday so i'm giving it a week to settle and I can make any more fine adjustments if necessary. Leaving it a little lower than I wanted but it just looks so damn good and really makes those factory 18's pop.

BTW the camber is adjustable on the rear.

Thank you for sharing. How does your new set-up affect handling and ride comfort? With run flats I would not want to go stiffer.

Only put about 40 miles on today but overall extremely satisfied with the ride. Can't comment too much on handling due to the alignment being off but feels good overall. I've been dealing with KW products for the past 20 years almost. I used to sell KW at a shop I worked at and it was always fun explaining to people how the KW's transformed the ride.

Based on my experience running KW V1's on other vehicles in the past I had no doubt the ride was going to improve over the standard M-sport suspension on this X1. The factory ride is stiff and the damping and rebound are too quick and harsh. The KW's smooth all of that out, I"m surprised because I thought most of the "rough" riding on the factory set up was all due to the run flats but it's not.

The way I always describe switching to a KW setup is that it's firm but soft.

Currently this is the third vehicle in my fleet that runs KW's. I have V1's on my S40 club car and V3's on my wife's C70.

Looks AWESOME!

Few questions for you,

What height setting is this in the photos, all the way up?

How adjustable was the rear camber? +/- how many degrees? From my understanding its non adjustable from the lower control arm.

Wow, that is interesting as I was blaming 100% on the rft , thank you. I have an xdrive 2.0d , I definitely do not want to lower the ride height, in fact I would be happy if it were 1/2” higher. Can you recommend suitable KW set-up?
Thanks again

I believe there is only one on the market, this kit uses Bilstein shocks and Eibach raising springs. If you are raising I would recommend a mild spacer 10-12mm to offset the height for stability.

I estimate this is approx. 1/2 of the way down. Switching to the KW's gives an approx. 1/2~3/4" drop before lowering the perches. Sadly I did not measure prior to installing the KW's so maybe someone else with the 18's can take a measurement. KW claims 40-60mm adjustment range on this setup but it seems to me you can go lower.

Right now as it sits there is about 32mm left to lower in the front and 17mm to lower in the rear.

Here's a shot after this mornings test drive. The front needs to come up approx. 5mm.

Oh and I'm not sure on the camber adjustability, still working to get pics off my phone but there is an eccentric bolt on the lower control arm for adjusting the camber.

If you don't want the ride to be lower I do not recommend a set of KW's.

The eibach pro-lift kit apparently is not available for the F48 even though it is listed on the eibachshop website. I emailed back and forth and they said it was not available for my particular X1. (US version X-drive). They only have the lowering kit.
