Front brake pad replacement costs?

Hi all,

BMW called me recently and said my front pads needed replacement as they generally need replacing after 2 years. (My x1 has done 30,000km)

They quoted me $760 for parts and labor which is very steep.

Can anyone tell me what is the approx cost to get it replaced independently?

Thanks

Yeeaahh that’s robbery, IF I’m fact they need replacement. It’s easy to check through most OEM wheels. Order through rock auto and have an independent shop do it. It takes an hour max.

There's a thread on here, somewhere, with a listing of all the available pads (and there's quite a few)

I got a crazy quote for pads fitted from BMW, so got a set of pagids for £30 on a special event at eurocarparts. Ten mins a side to fit.

How did you reset the warning message on the dashboard?

Brake pads do not generally need replacing after 2 years. They need to be replaced when they are worn out, which depends on how you drive and how much you drive. I highly recommend you either change the pads yourself using good aftermarket pads or take to an independent shop. OE BMW pads are typically not very good compared to aftermarket alternatives.

Do you have a 2016 X1? Should still be under warranty... Brought my car in for my routine maintenance, When I picked it up, they told me they replaced the front brakes, (rotors and pads) as they had 'pitting?' from limited use... I didn't even ask and had no complaints... Luv my dealership

I don't think brakes are included in the free maintenance program, unless, well, they are defective.
