Microfilter
I have just put my 1 year-old 520D SE through its first service at 13000 miles.
The bill included this item: B64.11.6996.208 Microfilter G11/2/31 at £101.91 plus VAT. Is this a valid price? and how often does it need to be changed? Any info/advice/sympathy will be gratefully received. |

Assume you don't have one of the service plans hence being charged for this?
Also curious as to why the car is being serviced after just 1 year and with just 13000 miles. My (UK) car states 2 years or ~19000 miles which ever soonest. Appreciate driving style has a bearing on actual figures but that just sounds quiet a bit shorter than the service interval on mine (540i) |

Condition-based servicing is the short answer - the car told me to get it serviced, and I didn't want it to carry on nagging me! This is the first time I have done such a low mileage in a year - I usually do up to 20,000 a year (this is my sixth 5 Series car), which explains why the greatly-reduced mileage limitations in the most recent service plans made them poor value. Previously the CBS instructions have come on at between 16000 and 18000. The previous five cars were 530D, which might have made some difference, together with doing fewer miles which implies a greater proportion of short trips. As a matter of interest, when I rang to book the service and told them the mileage, they said that it wasn't needed yet as "current BMW cars only need servicing at 18000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first"! |

I've just had change engine oil notification coming up after only 13k miles. This has to be the earliest that I'll be doing an oil change.
