530i MPG issues anyone?

I got my 530i a week ago and I'm really loving it, except for one thing which is really bothering me. My MPG information seems to be way off for some reason. For example, it says I'm running 14 mpg on average, which is kind of ridiculous, when it's supposed to be 24 city / 34 highway. I drive in Comfort mode all the time and I don't do anything unusual, so I don't understand this. I did fill up my gas for the first time(premium), reset the MPG/Average Speed info, and started driving again, but it keeps telling me 14 mpg... 17 mpg at the most(rarely says it). Anyone know what the problem might be?

Lead - heavy metal - Pb. A foot so heavy, that it slaps the accelerator to the max. Pedal to the metal.

If you drive short distances with lots of stop/go traffic 14-17 mpg is to be expected i guess, especially since it's a brand new car?

But if you're getting those numbers just cruising along something it off. Fill it up, reset the trip computer, drive for half a tank, fill it up again and take note of how many gallons you get in the tank. Then calculate and compare real consumption with what the computer says.

I'm getting 26 mpg (us) with mixed driving over 6 months. Saw a slightly better mpg after the first 2-3 months, maybe 3-5%.

I average around 18-20MPG in the city in slow traffic in comfort mode. Not bad for a full size luxury sedan that weighs 3,700 pounds.

Turbo 4 pot engines tend to drink gas the more you push them. Having said that, I have been happy with the fuel economy of my 530i. On the open road I have managed to get up to 35MPG, with 4 people in the car and their luggage.

My 2011 E90 328i with the N52 6-cyl in line normally aspirated used to return between 14-15MPG in the same city traffic routine. It was mated to a 6-speed automatic. The car was much better in the highway returning close to 32MPG.

My E90 had to be filled every single week. My 530i gets filled up every 2 and a half to 3 weeks.

I haven't used the auto start-stop system ASS or hardly driven it at all using ECO mode. I find my self doing about 80% comfort mode with the remaining under Sport/Individual.

Also check your cold tire pressures. I have the 19' wheel/tire combo and run the fronts at 32PSI and rears at 40PSI.

Make it a habit to check your cold tire pressures at least once a month. Also check the thread and the wear pattern while you are at it to ensure that the tires are wearing nice and even.

Low tire pressures, balancing and alignment problems can impact your overall fuel economy. This is often over looked.
