Optional 3" sliding rear seat question
If you don't purchase this option, what position is the rear seat in? The same as the optional sliding rear seat slid all the way forward? Or back? Or in the middle? If this option, for example, gets me 3" more legroom for backseat passengers, I'll do it! Thanks.

I believe the standard seats get max legroom, min luggage room. But I'm not 100% sure.
Sliding seats are now standard here in the UK, by the way. Are you sure they're still optional in the US? Check the configurator or ask your dealer. Brochures and pricelist might be outdated. |

I believe you also get recline adjustment for the backrests and power folding backrests with buttons in the cargo area.

So this article seems to imply the opposite: "Rear-seat passengers now have it really good. Rear-seat legroom jumps up to 2.6 inches with the available $300 “Slide and Recline” option. It’s a boost in spaciousness you can really feel. The back seat is no longer tight; in fact, it’s inviting."

Lots of magazines got this wrong due to the huge increase in space verses the old X1 (15cm I believe), they simply attributed this to the sliding rear seat whereas it's mainly down to the transversely mounted engine. I drove two test cars without the sliding rear seats and they have the same legroom as ours with the sliding seats back as far as they go

They gave us the wrong trunk tray by mistake when we got our X1. It's the trunk tray for the rear-sliding seat model. It falls short of covering the rear cargo area by about 4".
So in other words, the rear sliding seat option will take away 4" of rear cargo space.

That's a good point; there are different part numbers for the boot liner depending on whether you have the sliding seat option (4FD) or not. I've bought a genuine liner for my X1, which has sliding seats as standard here in the UK. I'm assuming that it's the shorter of the two types as it has to cater for the "worst case scenario" of having the rear seats slid all the way back. But this still begs the question about what position the fixed seats are in?

If it helps, the part number I purchased was 51472407173, for xLine vehicles with the sliding seats. It measures about 87cm, or 34 inches, from front to back from rim to rim. I can't check how close this is to the rear bench as I'm still waiting for the delivery of my new X1

I should have clarified, we immediately used RealOEM to get the right P/N for the tray and swapped it out.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=03_1503 Designation of adjustable rear seats is S4FDA, which is not available on M sport X1s. The sliding seat tray is the "+S4FDA" model. It's about 100g lighter from being too short. The 1.9kg model is the -SA4FD trunk kit and fits non-adjustable rear seats (e.g., from M sport equipped X1s). The correct part number for fixed seats and M sport should be 51472407170. This is the tray and not the trunk mat (who would just want a mat?!) What this means is that, by default, the fixed seats sit slightly forward of the sliding seats. There is a slight recline on them. So I'd say 2.5" further forward in the fixed seat case, +/- 1"

This has been covered previously (but I can't find it ) My recollection is there is a difference between legroom on the adjustable vs non-adjustable.

In the market for an X1 and this would be a great feature to have for the rear seats especially if they slide back from the standard position of a fixed rear seat. Being 6'7" any additional space for someone behind me would be great.
This thread doesn't seem to clarify its functionality. Anyone have a definitive answer? |

Saying that, any tall drivers don't rule the X1 out - the interior space is very good. I'm 6'4" and the rear passenger behind my seat has loads of room. |

There are various threads on this: consensus, including BMW's position is that you do get an inch and a bit extra rear legroom with th sliding rear seats. The boot liner to go behind them is shorter, so would seem to confirm this. What actually makes a difference to rear seat legroom is how high you set the front seats. If you have them low people in the back can't push their feet underneath them. I run with them at maximum height, so there is loads of legroom behind me. (I 'm 6'1" + and can sit behind myself, if you know what I mean).

I would have really hard time to find the videos, as X1 related youtube videos are my only entertainment for the past 3 weeks and will continue to do so until my car is delivered and I saw basically all of the x1 videos in all of the languages available
but at least in two reviews it was stated that without the adjustable rear seats they are about 30% more forward than the adjustable ones all the way back, and that was the reason I went for them, because I couldn't care less about remote folding button, but I do need the maximum rear legroom. |

I have personally compared this at a dealership before deciding to get the adjustable rear seats. You do get more reclined seat back position and at least an inch more of leg room.
If you like to check out the comparison between adjustable and non-adjustable trunk trims, check this link out. http://parts.bmwmonterey.com/a/BMW_2...M/51_2928.html Hope im not violating for posting an external link. Hope this helps. |
