WOT! No HUD
I knew I was tempting fate the other day when I posted this was the first new car I owned that hadn't gone back to the dealers with a problem!
Got in the car an hour ago and no HUD All the settings are okay. Nothing showing as an error. I guess (and hope) it might be just a bulb out. Will phone dealers tomorrow and get it sorted. Why did I write that....... |

....and it's back again!!
I was just taking the car to the dealers, started up and it all appeared as normal?? I'm very relieved but obviously it's something to keep an eye on. |

I've been driving the car for about 2 hours today and it's working fine. Most odd? |

A long shot, but u did not accidentily put HUD on/off on a prefix number.
I had it for a while because i found it handy to put it off (because i thought a HUD is nonsense) Now i am used to it, i am never going to put it off again The frontwindow looks naked without a HUD |

re: HUD and polarising sunglasses. IME the sunglasses don't kill off the HUD just dim it, so by turning up the brightness on the HUD its usable again. Around 95%.

Anyway, booked the car for a quick check for Monday. Saturday morning and navigation is back in action; booking cancelled. |

There's warning in the manual about the iDrive display automatically reducing its brightness and even switching itself off temporarily if it gets too hot. I'm assuming the HUD might have a similar feature.
Is there on-in-a-gazillion chance that you were parked in the sun? |

There certainly is and the car was facing straight at it whilst parked. Thanks KPD. I wonder how those cars in warmer climates than the South of England will fare. I assume there might be such places |

That could be it then. There are no specific warnings about this in the manual though. It was just a guess.
