X1 on Motability

I've just ordered my new 2.0i x-drive Sport from Motability so can't wait for it to arrive.
For non UK readers Motability is a charity run for disabled drivers in the UK, it allows us to get a new car every 3 years or if a full wheelchair van is needed you can keep it for 5 years. I get a war pension disability allowance which I could either have in money every month, or I can use it to pay for a car. The great thing is this allows me to get a new X1 for an one off advance payment of £800, the allowance then goes to Motability every month.
I've chosen the car in Alpine White with the driver comfort package and sun glass.
Being on a war Pension my funds are limited but when this car came on to Motability I couldn't resist. As you probably all know, most drivers in the UK drive manuals, I need an auto as I have limited use of my left leg, this has caused a few problems with winter driving, especially as all auto's are moving over to DSG gearboxes, and I have been stuck on a Tarmac road with the very finest bit of snow in my current Fiat, my previous Seat and Citroen. ( I have owned real cars in the past...Escort Mexico Mk1, Porche 924/944 and an old 320, but 5 kids meant a 7 seater and rubbish)
Now the kids are older and working/uni I have a chance to get something I want.
I have been really impressed with my dealership (great coffee too) I popped in last week for a look and the next day I was loaned a car for the whole day which allowed me to drive to hospital on the motorway drive home on nice winding roads, pop into the local farm shop (off road) and show it off to the family. They then sorted out all my paperwork and before I knew it I had an order placed.

Why a petrol model?
As I said at the start funds are limited, I could have got a diesel for £900 more, but after a lot of calculating and browsing it appears that the petrol will cost about £200 extra a year, so thats £600 over the term of the lease, saving me £300 which I used for options.

Why an X1?
I can fit my scooter, hoist and dog (Labrador) in the boot and if I take out the spare wheel I still have a lot of luggage space.
I can get in and out easily. I find it difficult to get down to low seats.
And its 4WD. and its a BMW

If you want to have a look at how good the pricing is go on to the Motability website, a standard DLA recipient could get an M25d or X-line for £2999!!!!!!!!!

The only bugbear I have is that cruise control is non standard in the UK. I had planned to get it fitted as an option, but now it only comes as part of a package, even the package changed within a few days. At the moment Driver comfort comes with Cruise, PDC and Park Assist, last week it had extended lighting instead of Park assist, and cruise was available as a stand alone option, still at least I not get a sliding bench as standard.

That's enough for me except to say my new white Northampton Saints window sticker is going to look great on the back window. Roll on July.

Congrats on your order and welcome to the UK 2.0i Petrol club - we are a fairly small (but growing) unit

I think most people have chosen Petrol when their annual mileage is quite low and/or for more frequent shorter journeys - these are the normal logical reasons to avoid Diesel.

I had my test drive in a Diesel version as there were no available Petrol versions back in January (even at other dealers) and to be fair I hardly noticed the engine at all.

Another 20i owner, the car is so refined. Don't hear the engine at all in normal family use. Just my luck that after years of petrol being cheaper than diesel, this reversed right when we picked up our first petrol car in the last 14 years! Won't really impact on us too much as my wife only does 7k tops a year

Thanks for the welcome to the "Petrol Club"
I had assumed the petrol would be refined, so it's good to hear it is nice and quiet, as far as low mileage goes I tend to do a bit more than average, the Fiat has 22,000 miles on it and it's not 2 years old yet. The X1 is due around the middle July then it's off on a little trip through Belgium, Luxembourg France, Switzerland, Italy and Slovenia, with a return trip through Austria, Germany (via Munchen) Holland and then home. I am so looking forward to driving over the St.Bernards pass in a car with hill decent control as it was a bit hairy in the Fiat last year.
