Long delivery times (10 months!)

Hi all

I'm about to order the X1 as my new company car.

However, according to my dealer, the car is in such high demand the waiting time will be 10 months. I asked another dealer, who told me I'd have to wait until at least November. Appearantly, in January the waiting time was only two months...

So, I was wondering:
- Is the waiting time this long everywhere or only in Belgium?
- Is there any chance BMW will do something about this, eg by increasing the production capacity?

Thank you in advance for the answers.

I ordered in October and will receive the car this week - 6 months after!
Dealer told me the factory had a supply problem related to the diesel engine. Supposedly that issue was sorted out.

I ordered in February and will receive in June, 5 months. Mine is the 20i, could have had a diesel in 8-12 weeks. Which engine have you chosen, seems to be a problem with the 20i supply as far as I have seen... My dealer originally quoted me the 8-12 weeks and then rang and advised it was 5 months once he processed the order.

Wow! That's a long wait!

We're spoiled here in Western Canada, I guess...we ordered ours at the end of December for the January build allotment, and the car arrived last week. Was told 2-3months and got here in about 10weeks.

Ordered 20i on Nov27, collecting today. Here in UK, at the time we ordered, diesels seemed to have several weeks shorter delivery time. Think petrol demand is greater in Europe than they expected - can't think why!

We ordered ours on January 23 and will have the car normaly on June 22 - 5 months after we ordered. Apparently there are much of these cars sold during the motor show in Brussels, which would seem to be the reason of over time delivery ?!
Our dealer told me last week when You ordered one now, the delivery will not have place in 2016 but at the earliest in January/February 2017 ...

I've called 5 BMW dealers that are customer with us and they all say impossible ...
So let me know which dealer You have, then I go to complain with ours.

It's not a stock car, it's a new one.
Maybe your dealer already has a lot more orders in queue than mine. Must be something like that.

I think that what he means by stock car is a car the dealer already has one on order for stock but it has not yet gone into production. This type of vehicle is already in the queue to build but can still be configured how you want it, as it is only when a car goes into production that the ability to change the specification is locked down.

I don't know anything about that. I would be surprised if that is the case. I just went to the dealer, configured the car and he placed the order. Currently I can still change the configuration as it's not in production yet, but I don't think it was already in the queue.

Maybe they just didn't mention it to you.

The lead times being quoted for diesels were 8-12 weeks when I ordered mine and the petrol's were 5 months and countless others have also confirmed this being the case (as have I by trying a few dealer networks), I believe that the lead times are now even greater than this. Therefore the reason some people are getting theirs cars sooner is not because those dealers have some sort of special relationship with the factory...

I have managed to cut short lead times on a number of cars previously purchased by finding a dealer network with an unsold car in the pipeline that was still configurable, in fact I did this with my wife's current A Class.

That's what happened with mine: ordered & configured mid-November, delivered 23rd December.

I'm still convinced that it's not the case with mine. It's the second car I've ordered there and I'm sure I would have known if it was an existing order.

You should be more than happy that the dealer allocated a slot for you from a preordered one and amended the specs as per your order. Most of the reputable dealers are doing the same thing if they know that those models will sell. They guarantee that a certain number of vehicles will be delivered to them at a certain period from the factory. As far as I know that there is a long long waiting list for new orders for the X1. I was lucky with my order as the dealer is a family friend and He was able to order mine from a pre ordered car and fix the spec before 2 days that the car was going to production. Car arrived today at the dealer and delivery on Monday when the plate numbers are ready....

I'm in MN, USA. I ordered mine Feb 5th and just got a call from the dealership that the car will be arriving at the port on the 24th of March, at the dealership by the 1st of April.

Thank you all for your response. It seems like those delivery times can differ a lot around the globe.

I can only conclude it's not that BMW cannot deliver sooner, it's just that they seem to limit the number of cars that can be ordered by a dealer.

Somehow they hugely underestimated the demand for the X1 in Belgium, resulting in these ridiculously long waiting times. This is for a Diesel by the way (which I'm obliged to choose by my employer).

Appearantly if you're lucky you can find a dealer with a shorter delivery time, but unfortunately I have to order at 1 specific dealer.

I still hope BMW somehow intervenes.
