Talking It's Here!

I ordered my 2016 BMW X1 xDrive28i on December 19, 2015. Its Alpine White over Mocha Dakota Leather with the Oak Grain wood trim (my favorite part of the interior!). The options list includes:
  • Premium Package
  • Luxury Package
  • Technology Package
  • Driver's Assistance Package
  • Cold Weather Package
  • 19" Y-Spoke Wheels
  • Space Saver Spare Tire

I was going to do PCD, but the earliest date they would give me is March 10. That was 3 weeks away! Given the delay, I elected to have the car delivered to my local dealership, to which it arrived today!

They will detail tomorrow and I will pick it up after that. Of course, I had to stop by after work to see it.

Here it is:

That's a long wait for an X1. Are they selling that well in the UK? I don't think sales have picked up yet here in Aust. Have only seen a handful on the road, while the MB GLC that launched a month after the X1 is already getting quite common.

It is only the Petrol 20i that has the extra long lead time in the UK. We do not have 25i or 28i options in the UK so I do not know if these are also affected.

A couple of us ordered 20i on the basis of 10-12 weeks lead time only to find after ordering that it would be about 24 weeks. No real explanation from BMW UK other than "there are not many 20i engines available". New orders are now being quoted Q3 availability.

Thanks everyone! Really enjoying the car so far. It was dark, rainy, and cold last night so no new pictures to share. A few initial observations:
  • Steering feel: Definitely not as good as my old E92 (which is expected). Feels more like every other car on the market. Too much dead zone on center, particularly in Comfort mode. Sport mode does improve this somewhat.
  • For me at least, seats are okay. Certainly not as good as my E92 and still wish sport seats were an option in the US (without getting the M-sport package).
  • Even with 19" wheels and run-flat tires, the ride quality is very good. Much smoother than my E92 with sport package, 18" wheels, and run-flat tires. With the deplorable condition of Dallas roads, this is much appreciated. Even over some of the worst stretches of potholes...I mean roads...I would only describe the ride as "jittery." In my E92 the same roads were painful.
  • Speaking of those run-flat tires, mine has Dunlop tires on it? Not a fan of how it is a crapshoot as to what tires you'll get.
  • Overall, pleased with the B48 engine and the AISIN transmission so far. I've exercised restraint so far and have not pushed it...not that there is really a need - there is ample power available below 4k RPM. Engine seems to sound better than the one in the F30 3 series, which is my major complaint with that engine.
  • You have to get your foot REALLY close to (basically touching) the bumper to activate the hands-free liftgate.
  • Auto parking brake feature is really nice. My driveway is pretty steep and it is automatically engaged when I shift into park and disengaged when I shift into drive.
  • I'm definitely pleased with the base sound system. For me it would not have been worth the extra $875 to upgrade.
  • Should have sprung the extra for sliding and reclining rear seats, mainly for the electric release.
  • I have noticed the ever so slight lag from when the horn is depressed to the sound. Probably would not have if not pointed out by others on the forum.
  • The open compartment below the armrest feels cheap. Further, there's not really a good place to keep change. Granted, E92 was not much better...I kept it in the driver's side door panel in a small compartment.
  • Generally not a fan of BMW "mainstreaming" their cars, but the relocation of the central locking button to the driver and front passenger door is much appreciated.

There's apparently some delay with petrol engine models -- I'm not sure if it's just the UK/EU or elsewhere as well.

I was tossing up between the X1 and the GLC and when I finally decided to order (large November), a GLC delivery in Australia would have been May/June. That, and price, were the major reasons I chose the X1.

I got mine in Mineral white with Mocha interior and I'm getting more compliments on the color combo... even from people at the supermarket!

Congrats on purchase! I like it much better than the M-Sport. The non-M sport bumpers looks more like a CUV and more cohesive with the design than the M-sport version.

But man, so many white X1s out there

IMHO, the reason there are so many white X1s is because the colour chart for this car is pretty uninspiring. No offense to others, but that's the simple truth. There's only three lighter colors, and if that's what you want and don't see the point of paying for MW or SS, then AW becomes the default. The rest are a straight take from Northern European noir.
