BimmerPost Photo Contest Rule Change

Since most people are no longer shooting pictures for challenges, we're trying to see if people would be opposed to making the submission time shorter. That way we'd have more contests per month. VOTE OR DIE

I vote for 10 days as well... inabis botched this poll

Oh yeah, and anyone who picks 4 weeks will be banned.

I agree with the canadian and the badger, the 10 days including flanking weekends would be good for submissions. Then 4 days to vote. Then 1-2 days for the winner to pick the new theme, which will start on Friday or Saturday morning... rinse-and-repeat.

LOL I did the best with the info I had. Cut me some slack!

10 days to submit
4 days to vote
2 days for new theme

16 days =/= 2 weeks

8 days to submit
4 days to vote
2 days for new theme

^How does that sound?

Good call, I apparently cannot count today.

Basically, submissions start on a Saturday and end the following Sunday. Then voting begins by Monday and ends on Thursday. That gives the winner until Saturday morning to put up a new one. Am I understanding that correctly?

That sounds correct! That way we can have "two" weekends to start. So, to start this should we just vote on this current contest till Saturday and start a new one on Sunday?

I could start the next contest just to get the system in effect.

Have the vote for this one end next Thursday (2/17) midnight. Winner has until Saturday noon EST to put up a new contest, otherwise 2nd place will, etc. That contest submission will end midnight 2/27, and voting for it will end on 3/3 midnight.

Sound ok with others?

What if we have a hectic work/social life? Eg if I was to win the latest contest - I have to have a poll up by THIS Saturday! Seriously?? Do you think we have nothing better to do??

if it takes you longer then 5 minutes to make a theme up, you're putting too much effort in.

Paul,

You make a good point... if you're busy, you're busy. Sometime people go out of town for a week or two. Most of us won't wait that long. Shortening the submission and voting times do not prevent dragging things along due to either laziness or being legitimately busy. So, not having strict guidelines or deadlines would defeat the purpose of changing anything right now.

That being said, in the case you describe, if you won that contest (satisfaction should be enough since there is no prize) and are too busy to post a new theme, then #2 will pick the theme, or #3 if #2 is busy.

Also, if you win by a landslide, and it's obvious you'll be the winner during voting, you can post a theme subject in that voting thread for what you want the next theme to be (if you know you'll be out of town and can't do it yourself). One of us will happily post that theme on your behalf, assuming you indeed win at the end of voting.

I know it's not necessarily the ideal situation, but you have to balance out time with moving contests along. Some contests in the past have lasted over a month from beginning to end, and that's too long in my opinion.

Obviously this is open for debate... just my opinions and suggestions on this matter.

Takes longer than that to get the post up! - never mind thinking about the theme. This bunch are a critical bunch! Too specific, too vague - you name it

I'll keep that in mind if i ever win then. But i guess it makes sense, a bunch of non-critical bmw owners would be weird.

Why would you guys want 1 vote per person? Is it to prevent close votes? Or do you believe that since it's a contest, and only one person wins, that it only makes sense to vote for one "best" pic out of the bunch?

I can maybe understand when there are 50+ people voting, but in our case, it's entirely possible the winning photo could have less than 10 votes if we do that (not that there is anything wrong with that, just saying...).

I don't mind the one vote personally - but you shouldn't vote for yourself.

agreed, even if yours is better. give others a chance

I really don't care, it's just 1 vote...... however, if only 10 people are voting on 10 pictures, it could be a problem...

Yeah, for sure, if we're doing it that way.

In the end, there is only 1 winner. Sometimes it's hard to choose, but....make a decision. Life is tough that way. I don't see a point to giving everyone else an 'atta boy' vote. I have yet to see a poor entry in any contest since I've been here. I'm actually surprise the hand puppet shadow pic didn't come up again for this contest.
