Exclamation BMW connective issue

Hello everyone,

My first post, and I come to you all with a slight problem, or maybe I’m just not doing something right (probably that one! ).

So I bought a BMW about 6 months ago, I really don’t drive the car much and I haven’t been able to properly get to grips with the car and all the tech it has to offer. The car is a 2013 (63) Registration BMW M135i with the connected drive and full navigation options etc., it has Bluetooth for the phone as well.

I am embarking on a few road trips at the end of this year, and I’m starting to get prepared and make sure that my music will work on the long journeys!

So I’ve connected my phone to Bluetooth, and my iPhone 6S plugs into the usb cable, charged and data transfers over to the car, so I can play my Spotify albums etc. However, my issue is that when I do the exact same thing with my iPod (image of iPod model, bought circa 2013 with lightning cable for charging etc.) the iPod charges, but then after trying to connect to the system, it states that the iPod is ‘Not Supported’ (images to show ). I’m slightly confused as why this may be, as I previously until recently had an iPhone 5S, which connected no problem, and to be honest, the iPod is pretty new!

Can anyone shed any light on this, and if they are experiencing the same, or whether I need to try doing something differently?

Look forward to your suggestions!

Your images aren't visible to me, so I can't tell what model iPod you're using. However, your set up is pretty much the same as mine. I have connected my iPhone via Bluetooth, ensuring it functions for both telephone and for audio streaming. That way, I can play my iTunes music, podcasts, Rdio, Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn radio etc via the phone, which is selected as an "External device" when I press the "Media" button on iDrive.

I have two old iPods, which I have attached via the USB connector. These work reasonably well, although a common issue is that while the iPod's charge via the USB, sometimes they won't "wake up" on starting. To get over that issue, I have a 64Gb USB stick, which I've filled with playlists and music, and have that permanently in the USB port. I can select this when I have particular playlists in mind, or use the iPhone connected via BT when I wish to use the media apps on that.

Obviously, I quite like the idea of Apple CarPlay, but it seems BMW isn't going to play that game ?

Edit: obviously, you need to ensure the BT software in your car is up to date.
