2013 118i F20 N13 water pump is it electric or manual?
I'm trying to bleed my cooling system but I'm not sure if my water pump is electrical or mechanical? since both have different ways.
can anyone confirm this for me? |

It's "manual"/mechanical: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_4998.
There's a lever in between the front seats, you should use it to pump. |

Parking brake. It was a joke.

, see the highlighted comment. N13 does have an electric auxiliary water pump. I would guess the F20 shown in the first clip above (diesel?) has the same double-pump cooling system, feel free to dig it (RealOEM) to make sure. |

I had to keep topping up the reservoir whilst idling after refilling but not had any problems with airlocks since. |

This is irrelevant here. But on RealOEM select your own car, of course.
Exactly. |

do you mean since you refilled you kept having to top up? or do you mean while bleeding? |

Fill to the mark, run the engine, level drops, stop engine, top up again, start engine and repeat a few times until engine is up to temperature. Then leave overnight and top up again if necessary, then check daily a couple of times. The level didn't drop again after 24hours and a final top up. i don't think Bimmerlink nor Bimmercode will do it. |

i did the same on a Golf GTE with no side effects. It seems to me that the bleeding process is just there to speed up dealer coolant changes and avoid customers complaining about low coolant level which will happen if you don't use it. If you are happy to check it for a day or so after refilling, then you know what to expect. |

I stopped topping it up and the level didn't drop any lower. So I concluded that when topped up to the line cold, the expansion caused a small loss when hot. |

What stopped me doing endless topping up was the amount of coolant needed. If your's always takes the same volume to top up to the line, then there can't be a leak or the volume would depend on how long you left it before topping up again.
