BMW 114i Interior

Was at my dealers this morning, and they've had a 114i in. I have to say its very disappointing in terms of build quality.

The outside black trim is cheep plastic, the interior radio is last generation, the steering wheel feels horrible.

Interesting. Don't think you can buy the car like that in Norway. I bet it must be lighter than a normal F20 as well. This option level would be perfect for a track/race-car project.

114i/d models were released for being Company cars, leased.
Quite often a base radio/cd and AC are the only comfort options to reduce the final price as much as possible.
I don t think a "normal" BMW customer will ever buy such a stripped model, except the case presented by ovekvam

I think it just looks cheap because its as standard as it gets. If you put some options in, it will probably look a lot better!

Looks like the ES spec that is also available with some of the existing engines. I know when my dad looked at the previous generation 1 series he was told that ES was for fleets and SE was for private customers.
The steering wheel looks similar to my SE but without the buttons.
It's always good to see the cars in different specs, especially when the brochure refers to the ES spec but always shows it with the optional professional radio and iDrive controller. Saying that, I'm amazed the dealer put it in the showroom.

This is the 1er stripped down to its bare essence. No gadgets , manual transmission , cloth seats , basic exterior fixtures and small wheels?

These entry cars provide customers who want a BMW and have never had one before the financial entry point.
You would be surprised how well these basic cars sell in Germany.

It is of course the pre-cursor to the upcoming small BMW hatch based on the MINI which will offer potential BMW customers another entry point and the opportunity to own their first BMW.

Jesus shit! Where the f**k is the iDrive?! That's tragic, really tragic.
I didn't think you could get a F20 without the standard iDrive. Yikes.

I wonder why they swap the radio and AC controls around in this version.

I have to admit that matt silver trim does indeed looks cheaper than it needs to in real life, and I don't like the feel of the standard wheel either. Same goes for the bare bones F30 btw.

Still pretty nice for a rental

Yep, I agree. This entry model doesn't have anything to say about what BMW used stand for at all. Is it the "Ultimate Driving Machine"? or is it the future "Efficient Dynamics" concept? This model doesn't have any unique selling point, it's just about how cheap we can build an entry level BMW without putting any thought into their long term strategies.

They are diluting their own brand, the M badge, and everything. In 5 years time, they will be just like Ford. Very disappointing.

It's nothing to do with it being a 114i as such, it's just an ES.

You need SE to get pro-radio, idrive, multi function steering wheel, bluetooth and USB, heated washer jets and mirrors, fog lights and a few other bits on uk cars.

There's not a lot in it price wise, as a private buyer you'd have to be mad to get an ES.

Cheers

On the uk price list there is £690 between the ES and SE. As well as the items I listed earlier you also get a slidinng armrest in the SE.

A lot of extra kit for £690

Cheers

It would have been great to get rid of that sliding feature. What is the point of that, anyway?

Hello,

Does anybody know that you can change the black trim around the airco into the silver for non sport/urban models ? Can you order this in spare parts ?
You can see the standard in the picture below.
