Come to the Bay Area, land of SJW. That's where it is (or was) enforced.
What's funny is last year I got pissed of at some dude that didn't make his turn and revved my E90 in second gear with several pops from the exhaust with my SJPD little brother riding shotgun 😂

Because it's a nice place to live in? I've been to Virginia, no thanks lol

I have seen two people in CA (an F80 M3 in Bay Area and an F87 in Huntington Beach) got an exhaust ticket with just port installed MPE in the past few months. Both cars have stock primary and secondary cats. What's worse is that the M2 couldn't pass state ref either for some stupid reason. They said not all four exhaust outlets go into the muffler, meaning the system acts as a muffler bypass. I don't know what the final outcome was but anyways... There are several people who got ticketed after the AB1824 became effective in January.
That's interesting. I drove a lot too these days and anytime I see strobes it's never a car that's loud and most often than not it seems like a field sobriety test is being conducted.

I got pulled over a few months ago, as he was wondering if my exhaust was to loud. This was at LAX as an Airbus A340 was taking off, extremely loud. Im like this is like writing a speeding ticket at the Indy 500.

Perfect weather with 4 different terrains available within 1-2 hr drive of each other: beaches, deserts, mountains, forests, and city life. I've gone snowboarding at Big Bear one day and hit Newport Beach for bodyboarding the next. Not to mention the diverse population and cultures and food that come with them. It's not all perfect, but the good makes up for the bad if you have the means to live here.

I had been switching to comfort around police even though I never got stopped for exhaust. I imagine if it's popping and banging or through an under pass they might do something but that hasn't happened either. Only the fine is going away though presumably you can just unplugged the mppsk so it doesn't open in sport when you get it tested. Or just have it tested in comfort.

That's because they have much bigger things to focus on.

Zero time for unnecessary drama.

I got a ticket in NY state last year for my exhaust being too loud

And the tint laws are horrible. I just want less heat in my car!

It's in comfort by default, so there would be no reason to test it in Sport Plus.

Probably a sound meter. And you need more than "95dB", is it dB(a), which mimics the way the human ear gears different frequencies...?

The test should state a set distance from the vehicle too, front, rear etc.

If you are burbling around a populated area like an idiot or don't have a valved exhaust I can see why people were getting pulled over but has anyone gotten pulled over because their tips "looked modified" despite driving in efficient mode when the cop spotted you?

It has always been like that here. The difference was that the option to make it correctable was removed (...when it was previously officer discretion). Some traffic laws even tie the hands of judges. If I cite you for tampering with the reflective coating on a license plate (...CVC 5201.1(c)) - a crime that prevents some toll cameras, red light cameras and police license plate readers from reading the plate - it's an automatic $1000 fine that even a judge can't reduce.
Happy for you guys in California

If the testing procedure involves revving past 4K then it will have to be unplugged to confirm it's fixed

Maybe go back and reread what I posted.

RPM's have nothing to do what I posted.

Revving past 4K in comfort mode will cause the valve to open so it will be louder. They may want to test the exhaust in sport mode also to see if it complies.

Too many people with catless downpipes were complaining about getting pulled over so they had to change the law.

Don’t be obtuse. You know why people want to live here and no one is moving out of state because of a silly exhaust law.

On a separate note, this is better but unfortunately doesn’t address the issue that there are many cars sold stock that are over the 95 dB limit. I’m honestly not sure if mine would pass and there was a member here that was cited and failed the test even though he was stock (MPE from port).
