F series tuning
Wondering whether to tune my F20 LCI 125i with N20 for a while. Have been told by both BMW mechanics and technicians that it is very hard to detect ECU tunes on the F series by both flash and piggy back.
Car is under warranty until 2021 and is in first year of ownership. Would like to have either a generic tune with pop and bang map or custom tune. Financially, I think JB4 would be more worthwhile. Anyone have any experiences with either JB4 or flash tune in regards with dealer and voiding of warranty? |

I've had JB4 and others with various BMW's over the years.
I don't believe it can be detected. In many cases, the dealer knew it was there. There's a couple of things to consider: 1. BMW mechanics are busy and want to get your car out of there as soon as possible, so they aren't going to plug your car into a scanner and go looking for a JB4. They might look for a tune on a 140. 2. You can remove it, before going in for a service. 3. If you have / get a check engine light or something like that, have your car towed to a place where you can totally remove all evidence of the JB4. It's a risk, but so is life - if you want it, get it. |

Thanks for the reply mate. Do you think they would take age and other current modifications into account? Me being 21 with a custom 3" non-res catback mated to the M135i muffler; soon to be straight through.
Might bite the bullet after the second service next year. |
