HELP! Warranty Voided?
So, my car was taking longer than usual to crank and I bring it in to BMW so they can take a look. My service advisor said the battery was weak and they charged it.
I get my car back, two days later it will not start up again. I have to call BMW roadside assistance and get it jump started, once they do that I am driving home and I smell SMOKE! I pop my trunk and open the battery case, smoke is literally coming from behind my battery. I park up and have the car towed to BMW. My service advisor calls me and says that the wire running from the battery to the front of the car is FRIED and the car was in a collision before so it will void my warranty and I have to pay $2,500 I just left Vista BMW in Coconut Creek, FL and spoke to the service manager, I told him my story and he said it didnt make much sense that he will look into it. My question to you is : Can my warranty REALLY be voided if it is an electrical issue and the damage to the car was only cosmetic when it was in a collision??? |

To me it just sounds like they dont want to fix it.
Good luck with everything.

Doesn't seem like the collision was only cosmetic now.
And was your car in an actual collision? Try going through insurance from the same claim that you had during the accident? |

The only time your warranty will be void is if the car has been deemed a "total loss". Once the car has a rebult status the warranty is no longer valid. Hope this helps!

and where did you buy the car, im assuming not from a BMW store? and make the selling dealer aware of the problems you are incurring with the warranty issues, see if hes willing to compensate. If all else fails then call BMW customer service and escalate it to BMW NA... but for now sit tight and wait for that magic call |

From my understanding BMW warranty only fixes certain issues that is deemed manufacturer's defect from normal use. If your car has been in an accident before, then the warranty would not cover the problems that you are incurring now. Hence the reason why you dont buy second hand and you dont buy a car thats been in an accident.
Good news is this. If you purchase it off the BMW lot as certified used Car, then the warranty should cover your car. Hence the reason they charge more than other private seller/ and other non BMW car lots. |

Thanks for all your help guys, apparently the people who did the bodywork on the car did something wrong to cause this failure. I spoke to the service manager and he said I can probably sue for liability issues, the wire running to the batter was causing friction against something and the car could of literally set on fire. I am not sure what to do at this point, i'm going to call BMW customer service and see if i can escalate.

If it was a problem from a collision then call the insurance company that paid for the repairs. They WILL pay for it. I worked at a body shop for a while and customers made up the most random things about their cars and the insurance had to pay for it if it was reasonable. And if you get a paper from the dealer saying it's collision related then they really have no choice
