First night with my new bae tonight

Yep, tonight my CPAP and I are going to pop the cherry and spend our first night together.

I'm just hoping to wake up alive, not having killed her in the night :/

I’ve been sleeping so good since my sinus surgery. I sleep 8 or 9 hours strait, unless one of my girlfriends wakes me up. And, then I fall back to sleep. Where before if I woke up during the night, it was hard to go back to sleep.

So, verdict? I've been thinking about getting a sleep study done myself and I'm curious.

Woke about 3am with sore nostrils, and the mask beside me in bed, so I left it off for the rest of the night. However, the sleep app can report I was in deep sleep most of the time from 10pm till 3am, so it was helping - I'll keep trying and hopefully the nostril sensitivity eases over time.

Further to that, the mask may be the wrong type for me - I'm normally a mouth breather, but as someone said if I'm getting enough air through my nose because I'm not choking all the time, will I still be a mouth breather? So I'll try with this for a bit longer, and then may look at a full face mask (or maybe start with just adding a chin strap to keep my mouth closed) and see if that's any better. I worry it will be less comfortable, so harder to sleep with a full mask.

All you need to is to make sure your mask stays on. Make some adjustment to the straps. Mouth breathing will not be an issue as the air pressure from the mask will force you to keep your mouth closed. And make sure the humidifier on the CPAP is set appropriately. Spray saline solution in the nostrils before going to bed. I live with CPAP for more than 10 years now and used both type of mask. I feel better with full face though.

Despite waking up at 3, did you feel incrementally better, or no real change?

I doubt it would be significant, given you woke up at 3, but I've heard people say (who needed CPAP but didn't realize it) that it is life changing once you get the machine.

It IS life changing, when your partner starts to sleep thru the night, gets adequate sleep, and suddenly you aren't walking on egg shells because you don't want to incur the wrath of the she-beast within.

Humidity is very important to comfort.

This is what I wish for. I get snappy and my husband asks me what is wrong. Well, if I could get a good nights sleep then maybe I wouldn't be so temperamental.

This is basically where we are most nights. I wait for him to fall asleep to see if the snoring starts. Last night it was so quick so me and the dog rolled out. I did buy soundproof ear plugs but don't want to wear them every evening. WTF is it with guys and snoring? Do the wives snore like this?

Yeah, my wife just kicks me repeatedly until I stop snoring, then she tries to fall asleep before I start again. It's a game. I'm the winner regardless since I barely wake up when she kicks me.

I used to awaken in the middle of the night with my ex-wife kicking me as hard as she could in the kidneys. Probably why I don't have a steady stream to this day. My last girlfriend, bless her heart, used to try to reposition me. Then she would put earplugs in. Then finally she would go to sleep in the other room and take the dog with her.

Yes, yes they do if they need a CPAP.
And kick when they are choking
And worry their husband who lies awake watching them stop breathing (spontaneously, not via anything the husband is trying to do)

I don't hear well, better on one side than the other. I'd have to sleep on the good ear (not my preferred side) if she fell asleep first.

Then we are BOTH cranky-ass (s)he-beasts after a while.

I'd like to also point out that we fart. A lot. Basically we are noisemakers at either end.

Yesterday I was eating breakfast in the kitchen and I farted so loud that it startled my dog (who was in a bedroom 50 feet away) so much that he barked once.

I laughed pretty hard. It was this muffled "woof!" from the bedroom in an immediate response to me as he tried to place whether this noise was a threat or not.

I treat a lot of OSA patients who are intolerant to a CPAP with mandibular positioning devices. They are custom made oral appliances. I have an ultrasound that I use to diagnose how badly the airway collapses, then I use small bite blocks to reposition the jaw and using the ultrasound I can open the airway and have the appliance made. The improvement I’m able to make is remarkable, and you don’t have to wear a mask. The chin strap won’t work if your nasal airway is compromised. I also evaluate the nasal passage too.
