need to replace BMW E91 in 18-24 months

So my kids are out growing my car.. I'm looking at MB E400/450 Or Volvo V60/V90:
Anyone have any experience on either of their platforms?

I will be coming from a N52 so looking for reliable engine and basic tech.. Bluetooth, Heated Seats, and maybe backup camera.

Is the R Design package worth it? (No,I'm not considering an AMG wagon.. not that baller of a Dad)

my friend just switched from e60 n52 to 2017 540i with b58. He looked at all of those and 540i was superior value and he loves it. Excellent drivetrain and very smooth with plenty of room for four.

You need to be more specific on your requirements: MB E400/E450, Volvo V60/V90... what year, mileage, budget? There is a 2015 MB E400 and 2023 MB E450 - much different powertrains etc. But in any case, I would pick B58 over any powertrain from MB or especially Volvo if reliability is important for you. B58 is a masterpiece, choose your car around that engine.

I'm looking for a 2017 or newer wagon with a budget of about $45k to replace my 2007 E91. I have 3 kids, 2 dogs, and a wife to occasionally haul around.

Get the E-Wagon, very spacious and luxurious, and I’d take a V6 over the gruff Volvo I4’s.

How about 640 Gran Turismo with B58? I know it's more hatchback than a wagon, but they do look decent lowered with front lip and have tons of space.

I would start my research on Bring A Trailer. There are MB wagons there roughly every week. If I needed a wagon right now, I would be looking for an E350/E400, too.

I already have a '22 540i G30 and really like it. BMW is bringing their next-gen 5-series here soon. Rumor is we'll get the M5 Touring, so I am hoping they will also bring a 540i touring as well.

Volvo V90 is an amazing car and I would take that over Mercedes E400 any day of the week! R-design is worth it but I would try finding a V90 Cross country and preferably a T6 or T8.

Try finding one with BW audio system and Panoramic roof also.

What model years are you looking at? From 2020 I believe they have Android instead of Senus which is lightyears better

Yeah, V90 got pretty amazing looks but nothing amazing as far as the powertrain. Very complicated supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cyl. with a 48-volt hybrid system only does 6.4-sec. to 0-60 while getting the worst highway gas mileage compared to B58 540i according to car and driver reviews.

Yep. Regarding the older one, I have driven several of those in sedan version. Hertz in Tampa/St.Pete had a ton of them when I was traveling there for work. I must have been upgraded to them a dozen times. Great drivers.

I would be happy with either if I needed a wagon soon.
