Is the BMW loudspeaker system any good? Don't fancy paying for the HK speakers.

Iīve read comments like "I canīt hear the difference between the standard set up with 6 speakers and the Hi-Fi version"

I agree with As1000: it would be great to hear someone comment on this after listening to both systems. HK is obviosly a lot better....... as I understand it.

There may well be different specifications in other countries but looking at the spec listing here....http://www.bimmerpost.com/goodiesfor...lequipment.pdf
The "Business System", (one up from std but below HK), has an amplifier and xtra speakers but no hi frequency units, (tweeters), so it may be louder than the std but not very, "hifi"....

I have the hifi upgrade and its not that different from the standard setup. Its alright but it wil not blow you away. If you are in to hifi quality you should go for the HK option.

Thanks. I'm aware that it's not going to be as good as HK but hope its not rubbish and sounds reasonably ok.

I got the hifisystem. I don't think you'll be dissapointed, I'm not =) it's definitly not rubbish. I'd say it's great. Just feed it with very high quality mp3's through usb, turn upp the bass and enjoy

I have HiFi Loudsystem in my 118. I have never listened to the standard nor the HK, so can't compare. But with CD, the sound quality is good. Just that bass is a bit weak. Therefore, I'm interested in upgrading to Apline with two extra tweeters.
Too bad this is not available yet in my location.

Compared to my previous 525d the ride in the 120d is more noisy. There is more rolling noise compared to the E39 525. ( But that wass and still is a reference about noise) Had a test with the new 520d and there i noticed that it wass a bit more noisy. In the 120d i have the hifi option and its ok but it doesn"t blow you away.

I have the Professional Hi-Fi and although it is OK, I expected it to be better. I do not notice a big difference vs. the standard one. However it is not very expensive option. Maybe the HK is much better, I have not found a car with the HK to test it.

I contact local dealer, they said the Alpine upgrade route does not fit the HiFi Loudsystem..... too bad I need to find out aftermarket solution for the upgrade.

Unfortunately you can only have the alpine hifi upgrade of you have the standard setup- its not for the hifi or hK version

I have the HK system and it does everything well as you would expect, crisp, sharp with no distortion, even flat out playing 50 Cent ! I’d go as far as saying its better than my previous Logic 7 Pro fitted to my e92 and that had speakers tweeters, subs and amps everywhere. If you can stretch to it I’d recommend this up-grade.
