Fault codes of F20 118i

Hello everyone,

very nice place here

i have 2012 n13b16 engine and had the drivetrain message on the idrive screen. when it happened car went to low power state (limp mode?) and also was shaky at idle.
When i went to official BMW shop the first told me i need to replace the cylinder head cover. according to them there is some kind of valve inside it which was stuck. they replaced it hoping the errors will go away but no luck.
i have attached a screenshot of the errors shown at the shop.
eventually they told me my DME is bad and needs to be replaced.
somehow i do not trust them (i deem they are not professional). i have the feeling they dont really know the cause and just guessing.
has anyone had the same errors? or symptoms?
thank you all

I experience the same message, exept voor de limb mode. Rubber of the electronice valve on the turbo was torn. Replace it with a GFB DV+ and everything was good.
The engine cover do have a vacuum reservoir with 2 small rubber hoses. If you take the cover off and forget to refit those small hoses you can get the same message. Read somewhere that a faulty camshaft sensor could make those messages to.
Good luck man!

thanks for the reply.
i think i will ask them about the hoses inside the cylinder head cover.
does it sound reasonable the DME gone bad?

I have experienced the same about 2 years ago, with the same messages. In my case both the intake and exhaust electromagnetic valve of the camshaft (Vanos) had to be replaced to resolve it. 2 different instances about 5 months apart, one of them was within warranty period luckily.

Not a cheap fix unfortunately, but never had the message since, so good to have those checked.

Good luck!

Hi galbo,

I had both actually , so could be the exact same issue. If it is just 1 of the electromagnetic valves I would recommend having both changed, since 5 months after changing the exhaust one, the intake one failed on mine.
