I have an OEM CF spoiler that I got from Sun Motors ($410, no tax, free shipping) and it doesn't have that depression that's being described. The OEM is a beautiful piece.

Would you please comment on the overall apparent quality of the piece such as surface finish, mold separation lines, paint, etc? Trying to understand if the recess is the only issue, or if other aspects are of concern as well. Thanks!

A few pics I took. IDK the profile may be similar after comparing pics at similar angles. Don't know if I like the indentation. Need to resize, back in few. Paint app looks good.

Looks like the indention is subtle.....All the aftermarket ones on e-bay from China for the 3 series and 1 series had something like that. I just might pull the trigger on one painted Mineral Grey for under $140 shipped. I have the MPE, rear diffuser and front splitter coming that I will install in the std unpainted mat black for right now.

Thank you for posting those photos. Once in position, the recess area seems it will be hard to see if one didn't like that part. The overall sweep and shape seems pleasing. It will be interesting to hold it in position to see the effect and judge the paint match. Thanks again!

Here's a link to a CF spoiler for 228i and 235i. It doesn't claim to be OEM but it looks exactly like the OEM part from what I can see. $240 which is $170 cheaper than the lowest price I could find for the OEM CF spoiler (at Sun Motors).

And at the bottom it says the "surface finish" is carbon fiber.....may be a wrap or other applied design to plastic substrate.

Seems to me that the only really safe way to know what you're getting is to spring for the $410 OEM CF spoiler from BMW. You also don't have to worry about quality. Yeah, it's a little more money, but amortize it over the time you expect to have the car and it's insignificant. I went with OEM because it's a lease and if I decide not to bother taking it off (or if I take it off and there's a paint "shadow" where it used to be and I have to put it back on), I won't be dinged at lease return for a non-OEM part. However, even if I had bought the car, I would rather have the "real thing" on my car than a cheap knock off that I saved a couple of hundred dollars on. Just my opinion.

Not sure where this no indentation comes from... look at one of the first pics posted by BMW...

I have the OEM CF spoiler asnd it looks exactly like the picture posted by Hyperzulu with the "indentation" on the bottom. Frankly, it looks exactly like the EB one in the picture above too. I think there's a misunderstanding here. The aftermarket, from what I can see in the pics, looks to be the exact shape as the OEM spoiler. Here are some pics showing the shape as best as I could capture it. The red tape is the covering over the adhesive.

Looks like I am possibly mistaken. I looked at a bunch of pics and never saw that. Does not stand out in the CF finish. Here ya go Anyway, paint is good, looks ok, came EMS shipping. For $170 not a bad deal, IMO. Have not heard from our CA. Car is at the dock and he said he would call when he gets an ETA from the dock to them.

I've seen "Sun Motors" referred to a few times on the forum parts wise. Do they have a website to order parts from or a telephone number ?
I'm from the UK but visiting family in Denver and have a snowboard bag to sneak a CF spoiler back in.

Cheers, Kyle

Comparison pics. Have not had a chance to take more photos as my wife has been out driving the car.

Not sure if MP spoiler fits the same but I had to move the spoiler forward on the trunk. Hard to explain in words, the outside edges (tips) are forward from the trunk edge or the outside part of the recess area hangs off the trunk and does not look good.

Looks good. Post more pics from the back and further away from the car.
Thanks

You're saying that the radius of the curve of the spoiler is more acute than the radius of the rear edge of the decklid. In essence, the spoiler has a "tighter"curve to it? So, when the middle of the spoiler lines up with the decklid edge, the ends of the spoiler are inward from the same edge?

That's the way it looks to me. I don't see it as a huge deal and it looks nice on the car but it doesn't appear to be following the curve of the trunk lid exactly.

Was going to take some outside shots today but it is really overcast. Yea, the spoiler has a tighter curve to it. If the recessed area was not on the back of the spoiler fitment would be real bad. Like I said unsure if the MP spoiler is the same. Have a somewhat down shot.
