12V outlets - Question

Has anybody tried to plug a torch into the 12V outlets? Your dealer sells some beautifully made torches, that can be charged through the outlets in the car. Either at the ash tray, in the rear part of the center console or where else you might have them. The torch itself is small, discrete, with a high tech design and can actually be stored permanently in the outlet.

I plugged in a torch today, and this is what I discovered:
When using the cigarette lighter outlet it seems fine! But it's not the ideal place. Plugging it in other outlets makes the torch give a spooky blue light, even if it is shut off (normal is white light). Is this just meant as an indication of charging, and why doesn't it show it when charging at the ash tray?

I tried this in my F12 as well, with exact same result.
Since I don't want to empty the car battery, I haven't connected the torch.....
