Interesting that BMW was way in front but on the individual vehicles it was only #6 and #8 (5 series and 3 series). To me, that suggests that the interest in BMW was spread across the entire spectrum.

While the Escalade was first on the individual listings, the listings suggest that there remains considerable interest in sedans and coupes ... not just cross overs.

I don't really understand this survey or what it means. I see Buick and Acura in the list but not Porsche, Bentley, or Ferrari. I assume, therefore, that this survey is either weighted by (or limited to) purchases in the $40k-$80k range or something like that?

It seems to me like that would be pretty obvious. To consider purchasing something, don't you have to be able to afford it? At least most of the time.

Being most considered is something but nothing at the same time - it's just a "starting point".

I look at this as BMW being on the top of the list of brands considered when buying a car, doesn't mean that I actually buy.

This seems pretty stupid. It's not even a real metric. Who cares who considers what brand? What matters is who makes a purchase.

Given the market right now, I bet a lot of people "consider" BMW but run away when they hear pricing.

If you say you were the most considered guy to go to the dance but didn't go then that just means you weren't the most considered.

You need to get out and shop. There's $5-$10k markups on some KIA's right now.

Oh sure, but that sort of validates my assumption that this study is weighted by count of shoppers in the different price tiers. i.e. there are more people buying cars in the $50k range than in the $200k range.

So, this survey is somewhat limited and misleading, since it doesn't normalize for proportional consideration at different price points (where Buick does not compete, for example).

Generating interest ultimately translates into sales, and gauging what's generating interest is just as important as generating it. It's a very important metric and in some form or another is considered in many companies across multiple industries. It has implications on where corporations focus on promoting specific products and how to go about promoting them. It's usually a precursor to suggest potential sales, but it also highlights discrepancies if something is considered often but isn't selling well.

I take issue with them considering Tesla a "luxury" vehicle.

The only other way to get this level of luxury is to invest in a $30 hockey puck ($19 on Prime Days) that you can stick anywhere in your house. Surely any car that can bundle an engine and four wheels to this miracle technology is an impressive product.

No they don't. BMW is the best selling luxury brand in the world.

Acura is on the list, does it still exist? If someone said no I would not object. What a travesty of a brand. Synonyms to Acura are bland, boring, slow, ugly with only one shining exception, the lovely NSX.

Honda is a company with great products and history but Acura must have been given to a 90 year old patriarch to look after. It’s a shameful thing.

Their marketing campaign is stronger than their cars that's for sure...

Americans just love the Escalade. Shame Genesis isn't higher. Their offerings are superior to anything Infinity, Buick, Acura offers.
