R compound tyres for racing - can they be smaller?

Doing my second night of racing and don't want to chew up through my Michelin PS4 very quickly so was thinking of getting some semi slicks.

Problem is, good ones in the size I currently have are unavailable and are also as expensive as the Michelins hence thinking of making them smaller and skinnier.

Was thinking of going 205 all around. My car is 125i hatchback, no tune, currently staggered 225 and 245 R18.

Would 205 be an issue? Honestly, I can barely do a burnout when it's wet so with R compound I think it should be sweet.

Can anyone advise pros/cons of downsizing?

cheers
