My new F20 118d Estoril Blue
Hey guys!
This is my first thread here so I guess I'll start with introducing myself. I'm Chris, 25 years old and from Berlin, Germany. My first encounter and experience with the F20 was in Munich at BMW Welt. The week before I had a E82 135i... such a beauty... and then I got the key for an 118d. First idea "Damn it!" But the F20 was very nice and satisfied the standards for my new car. So I make the decision and ordered a new F20 118d. And now... three weeks before pick up I'm I'm so excited. And now... the most important part. F20 2012 BMW 118d 5-door M sport package - Estoril Blue - Anthracite Hexagon cloth/Alcantara upholstery - 18" M light alloy wheels Star-spoke style 386 M - Aluminium Hexagon interior trim and Estoril Blue interior trim finisher - Multi-function controls for steeringwheel - Runflat tires - Armrest front, adjustable - Sport seats, front - Foglights - M Sport suspension - M steering wheel - M aerodynamic bodykit - Exterior trim High-gloss Shadowline - Headlining anthracite Comfort Paket - Extended Interior Light Package - Automatic Air Conditioning - Extended storage Driver comfort package - Bluetooth hands-free with USB audio interface - Cruise control with brake function - Variable sport steering Adaptive Xenon headlight package - Xenon headlights - Adaptive cornering light - High-beam assist - Headlight washer Visibility package in combination with M sport package - Rear-view mirror, auto dimming - Rear headrests foldable - Rain sensor with automatic headlight activation - BMW Professional radio with single CD - Ext. mirrors - folding, auto dimming - Model designation deletion - 12V power sockets - Floor mats, velour - Smokers package - Park Distance Control (PDC), front and rear - Variable sport steering So... that's it! If anybody have a question about me or my car please ask! Rgds Chris

Welcome aboard the forum Chris,
A test drive in a 118d was what dragged me to the F20 as well. You've spec'ed the car greatly. Good for resale - and your own joy Did you consider Navi Pro? I know how hard it is waiting..... A tough life, isn't it

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Oh yes, I did! Navi Pro is great, especially with the full package BMW Assist, Internet and Apps. But conditioned by the narrow funds I ordered the M sport package and use my iPhone for the navigation. Full ack... but at the end of the day it is only a nice luxury problem.

When building a F20 it's definitely right to start with the M package. After that you can pick options as long as your budget reaches

Thanks guys, I totally agree with you!
Yes, it was the right choice! Estoril Blue is an amazing colour... like it so much. With M sport package she is such a beauty! On saturday was my first trip from my dealer in Bavaria to Berlin. If you're interested in you'll find attached the result of the fuel consumption. For a brand new car it's not bad...

It gets better as you put mileage on.
For the first 400-ish miles it's quite 'notchy' but after that it smooths out. I still have problems going into 1st/2nd with 850 miles but it's getting better Only down side with having a RHD BMW is that you need to throw the gear stick away from you to get it into reverse. This is a movement that isn't very natural so takes a bit of getting used to. |

Don't worry!
You're right, with the M sport package the feeling isn't so effortless and a bit more harder, but it feels nice and smooth... direct, short an definied ways. Moreover I agree with will-w. I did the same experience! Passing the first 400-500 km you'll feel more comfortable with it. At my first drive with her I was a bit suprised and thought about the all-day running in the traffic jam of Berlin. But it's absolutely okay...You'll like it! Yeah... so... the first 800 km are done and I'm still happy with my decision for the new 1series and the configuration. But if we are talking about my experiences there is one little thing to say! That Radio Pro in combination with the USB port only charing my iPhone is ridiculous. I can't stream any music from my iPhone?! Sorry BMW, but I expect it for this price as a standard-feature!

Great looking car! nice photo-shoot.
Agree on the manual box, it's great after you've done a couple of thousand kms. For me it was hell in the beginning but thats because I picked the car up in the winter... -20c degrees and 0kms on the clock. Great combo not. Gearbox was so stiff, felt like the stick would snap. So much resistance especially the first couple of gear changes in the morning after a cold night. Now it's perfect. |
