M135i tow bar

Hello, does anyone know if a tow bar can be fitted, would like one to my bike on the back if possible, the manual suggests 1500kg towing capability so I presumed one can fitted.

Thanks, Scott

You can't select a towbar in the configurator on the M135i as you can on the 125i.

I noticed this too. Just like on the 116ED, but on my car I know its because the 'eco' gearbox can't handle the added weight of a heavy trailer. I dont really know why the 135i should't be allowed to tow anything. Sure its got more than enough power... But maybe its also gearbox-related..

I think it's maybe the rear exhaust section that get in the way. I don't imagine the automatic gearbox are a problem. I have a towbar on my 125i with the 8-speed, and it's rather cramped back there.

Isn't the exhaust on the 335i pretty similar to the M135i? You can get a towbar of the former.

It is quite common for BMW to not offer tow bars for M-cars.
You can however fit aftermarket tow bars on most of them, and probably even BMWs own.

Yes, but the 335i is larger car with more space behind the wheels.

You can order a tow bar for the new M5.

Thought I'd pipe in here as there's so much misinformation on the towbar on M135i particularly with people thinking you can't have a towbar due to space limitation from exhaust

After about 6 months of looking for someone to install one and being told "not available". I've just had a heavy duty Hayman Reese towbar fitted to mine in Sydney Australia without a single problem. 125kg vertical weight and 1200kg towing capacity. Removes/installs in about 30 seconds.

The model from Hayman Reese was simply for the F20 125i.

Installed by Rallyspeed in Sydney with full electronics.

Hi Drmoose
Do you have any photos of the towbar in your car?
Is it completely hidden when the tongue is off?
Cheers

This is all consistent with my experience in fitting a 125i bar to my E82 135i some years ago.
My daughter is about to take delivery of a 2018 M140i and would also like to fit a towbar. Unlike my 135i I think the F20 M140i has a transverse muffler with left and right-hand tailpipes.; does anyone know if the 125i towbar will also fit OK on the later M cars?

Firstly a tow bar does not seem to need any fitting. Secondly, the equipment this tread is actually about is still not offered officially for M Performance cars: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...MW-M140i&mg=03. What's interesting is it's neither supposed for 125i LCI specifically in Australia: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=03_1046.
