P3 Vent Gauge for the M135i
Fellow modders,
Has anyone invested in one of these for their F21? Apart from restricting a bit of airflow in the driver's side vent, ignoring the fiddly installation and a bit of cabling into the OBDC port I can't see why it wouldn't be a useful addition.

It's a multipurpose gauge with various feeds from the on-board diagnostics. The turbo pressure is what I'm curious about mostly, but I think it'll show a lot more stats like temps that would be handy.

For mine, it adds little that you can't get with one of the smartphone apps and a b/t OBD port dongle. And the price...!? I can buy a new Nexus 5, b/t dongle and app for the same money, and display multiple feeds. Sadly, still can't get oil temp through OBD.

You can't? I think I found it on my 116i. I couldn't read RPM, which is also annoying, since I would like artificial engine sound, like the M135i has...

My mate has one on his M135i, it has other functions such as 0-100 km per hour and other readings. Personally I didn't see the need to have it but there are some pretty neat readings / stats.

A drawback of OBD reading is after piggybacked, the boost reading is not real. Fortunately P3 accepts alternative signal input. A friend of mine has successfully retrieved the real boost reading directly from the tuning box added on his N26 328i (additional wiring required). I'll seek help from him for that later. BTW, I recalled the peak boost of 11psi/0.76bar for mine (before piggybacked). |

I've contacted P3 and they are going to be bringing out a revised version of their M135i display that will include oil temp amongst the metrics!
I'm definitely going to get one. And as mentioned above, the boost reading can be made compatible with a piggyback ECU tuned car, i.e. it can read the actual boost pressure, which is cool. I like the integrated look and the fact it still allows the vent to work, unlike a lot of vent-mounted gauges. But for any proper track driving, oil temp is a must. Incredible BMW don't allow it to be displayed on the multitude of displays already on the car. I wonder if the M235i will be the same? |
