Water in Drivers Footwell, missing drain?
Hi Lads,
Quick question, I have water flowing inside the car from the drivers footwell and pooling under the gas medal. After opening the bonnet and removing the covers I noticed that that the water is coming down from the windshield cowell and down after heavy rainfall. It looks like I’m missing a part of the drain on the left side, any ideas what part this could be? Looked online and none of the diagrams seem to match with my other drains. It’s an F21 2012 118d, alternatively, could anyone post a photo of their bonnet with the correct drains, I’m struggling to find it online. |

Hi.
AFAIK, water comes to the front footwells from corresponding drains on the sides of the windshield, indeed. It's just recommended (and BMW had it done for free when servicing) to remove mesh inserts from there and still have the drains clear (removing leaves, etc). Regarding parts and numbers, you know realoem.com, I presume. I am not too sure where those drains are: I had my inserts removed without my consent long ago and now they sometimes offer clearing the drains for money but I don't fix what's not broken. ![]() |

I believe the drains are here (as I recall they pointed there at a service suggesting clearing):
. Also I found a couple of videos in case you missed them: 1. "This area here and this area over here"; 2. . |

Thanks a million lads. Cleared out the drains but that didn’t help, ended up finding out that the water was coming from a broken rubber grommet that seals the pipe from the brake fluid reservoir. Sealed it with tec 7 and likewise with the area above and it seems to be fine. Ended up having to change out the carpets also as they were soaked, but so far no more water ingress. I’ll have to keep an eye out
