Hi guys,

So I just brought my mum's car in for a service, and everything checked out except for the tyres.

They're telling me that there's some uneven tyre wear and as such as recommended a wheel alignment. Report is as follows:

Front left: Inner edge 6.9mm, Outer edge 6.6mm Centre 7.5mm remaining.
Front right: Inner edge 6.8mm, Outer edge 6.9mm Centre 7.6mm remaining.

Rear left: Inner edge 6.0mm, Outer edge 6.5mm Centre 7.4mm remaining.
Rear right: Inner edge 6.5mm, Outer edge 6.2mm Centre 7.8mm remaining.

The car is only one year old, and has only done about 4600kms. I find this very unusual because the car only travels on smooth roads (no pot holes, no particularly uneven surfaces).

In the past I have only had to get wheel alignments done when I actually need new tyres, which would be after about 50~60,000kms. (We're a family of smooth drivers)

I'm thinking there's either:
A) Something wrong with the car(?), or
B) The pre-delivery team did a bad alignment job before collection

What do you guys think?

I could easily get an alignment done, but what's to say they won't tell me again at the next service that I need another one done because of driving on the road?

Maybe the tyres had deeper tread at the center from the factory.
If not, it could be related to wrong tyre pressure. Historically, edge wear was caused by too low pressure, but with modern runflat tyres, it is sometimes the other way around.

In Norway, a lot of BMW owners suffer from excessive inside rear tyre wear. It seems to be caused by driving on roads with ruts. Personally, my BMWs always suffer from excessive outer front tyre wear. It is caused by track days! :-)

it is usually caused by tie rods. have your camber alignments and tie rod adjustments checked as soon as possible. even a smallest impact from a "perfect angle" is enough to mess with those
other reason could be a bent wheel.

Get your wheel alignment checked just to confirm it is an alignment problem.
Also check tyre pressures once a month.
