so who did you race?

Please share your story if you ever had a chance to race someone with your f20, let us know what it was and how did it turn up, and yeah don't forget to mention what's your engine

cheers

I have driven with plenty of cars on various trackdays and autoX with a 116i. Most of them leave me in the dust on the straights, but the F20 is very competetive under braking and corners decently well. Among the cars that came up short, was an E46 M3.

I guess I would have left them (three different E46 M3s) in the dust if we had swapped cars too, but I think it is easier to find the maximum potential of the F20 than the E46 M3. It is easy to drive fast.

And I was beaten by two ten year old 104 hp Ford Fiesta Sport at the autoX nationals, so that just goes to show how important the driver is! :-)

Clearly

Anyway, what about “street racing” , you know – racing from lights to lights or up to 100 Km/h. I really wonder what those bimmers are capable, compared to the street rivals

I have smoked a vectra 1.9cdti in my 116d, but it was the opposite to what i expected it to be, i thought i would have the lead at the start to be takin over by the bigger engine but no, he had the lead upto about 60mph n then i took the lead wich shocked me, surely the bigger engine has the higher top speed?

Unless you and the other person are intentionally racing each other at the lights, you won't know if the person is really pushing his car or not.

I once had an WRX in front of me at the lights and when it turned green it "seemed" like he was flooring it so I followed suit and was able to tailgate him till the next lights. I say "seemed" because I don't even know if he was really gunning it or just going fast.

If he was gunning it you would've smelled it when following. Almost all cars smell rich at WOT, and a WRX certainly does in my experience.

That said, a real WRX (over here there are quite a few fakes and it's fun to beat them) should've left your 118i for dead.

Other person > Audi A1 1.4TFSI

I stuck my blues and whites right up those 4 rings until it screamed (no pun intended)

So far I have not had any fast hatch beat me from the lights, I have had a few try
The latest one, Fortunately I backed out at 62kph at around 20 mts in front od a S3.
Why? I was wary of the Golf GTi coming into the third lane, it was a unmarked Police car. The guy in the S3 who then tore past me was not so lucky a bit further down the road.

I would love to see a M135i take on a WRX STi
