Service Question

Does every service need to be done by BMW in order for the warranty to continue?
Or is it just the major services?

My car is asking for service front break pad 2500km 03/2013. So is it in 2500km or March 2013?

Which ever comes first. 2500km or march 2013. I don't think BMW has to service it BUT genuine parts must be used to keep warranty. Also, if there is a problem after you have car serviced somewhere else and it's related to the service they may well void warranty. I'd just take it to dealer while its under warranty. One more think, brakes are not included in service pack. Just filters, fluids and labour.

Do not know the law in Austalia. In Europe, the warranty is valid even you service the car outside the main dealer network, as long as: you used genuine parts and the service was done according to BMW instructions (down to the last detail, like the torque required to bolt a nut for example). If you can prove that the above 2 conditions were met, then BMW cannot void your warranty. In real life, just to have your peace of mind, it is better to stick to main dealer network for the duration of your warranty.

Is service pack a standard thing that comes with all BMW or an extra cost?

I just hate the dealer in Syndey (col-crowford), they never took me seriously just because of my age. So I see all they want is the $$$$ and not interested in the customers happiness.

So I want to avoid them, also because they are a rip off and i know a guy that has his own shop and does only BMW, Mercs and Audi and does a great job at a lower price.

Don't know how it works in Aus but over here the service plan is decent value. Pay a couple of hundred up front and all services are carried out by the dealer for 3 years. They usually try and sign you up to it when you place the order, the dealer it came from should have a record of it.

About 2 or 3 hundred quid, can't remember exactly. Pretty much pays for itself after the first one over here.

Edit:

Its only free if a buyer qualifies for Audi and BMW's corporate programs during a puchase (check links below for dealer pre-owned / demo sales).

To qualify for this program, your company / employer must be a volume buyer of their vehicles...(or to that effect) - see links.

The program provides u with special pricing (audi - not sure re. Bmw) and basic servicing (oil and other fluid changes, filter changes, etc...) for the first three services (in some cases, loan car hire during a service).

You can read up about it from their respective websites.

For my 125, i didnt qualify. However, my dealer offered a service package that i could pre-buy. I declined though - i'd rather pay more during service intervals than to hand over the cash upfront...

In Norway, 5 years (or 200 000 km) warranty and service is included.

It's an after sales pack. There are two available.

BMW Service Inclusive. £300
Servicing costs for 5 years/60,000 miles

BMW Service Inclusive plus. £1285
Servicing and maintenance costs for 5 years/60,000 miles

I'd take the inclusive plus pack if I had an M3 or M5 as they can eat discs and pads which cost £1000+ to replace easy.

Best bet is to call your dealer. It may vary. Mine was quoted circa this amount. (I cant remember the exact figure). The package covers a number of services. With the pricing that youre quoting...are they inclusive of a number of services or are they once off services?

I havent quoted anything from BMW, one of the post above said he's was $300 pounds (UK) for the service inclusive basic i'm guessing.

I'd check with an Australian dealer. I wouldn't guarantee there's any relationship between UK and Aust pricing.

However, if it is just brake pads, I think you'd be fine using a qualified independent dealer or brake specialist without affecting warranty.

I just wanted to know how much we are ripped off over here. I know costs are different.

I'm willing to bet the cost here for the service plan would be well over $1000 AUD.

In regards to warranty; here's what the ACCC has to say:

Quote:
New vehicle warranties: In relation to general servicing, motor vehicle dealers are entitled to insist that any servicing performed on cars they sell is carried out by qualified staff, according to the manufacturer’s specifications, and using genuine or appropriate quality parts where required.

Provided these conditions are met, regardless of where you choose to get your car serviced, your warranty will remain intact.

Genuine or appropriate quality parts?: The issue here is not who manufactured the part/s, it is whether the part/s are fit or appropriate for the purpose intended. If a part is non-genuine, but is interchangeable with the genuine part, it could be seen as being fit or appropriate for the purpose and would therefore not void the manufacturer’s warranty.

Express warranties are usually specified under the agreement with the dealer; it might state a specific time period, maximum liability and limitations. Express warranties operate in addition to statutory warranties, and cannot restrict the provisions of the statutory warranty, which is implied in every single consumer sale. Generally dealers will be able to place certain conditions on the express warranty given to buyers. A consumer may void their expressed warranty if, for example, the car is fitted with non-genuine parts. However, the statutory warranties will continue to apply unless the service of the independent mechanic or the fitting of the non-authorised part caused the fault.

Dealers are not permitted to limit their obligations under the warranty and refund provisions of the TPA or fair trading legislation, or make any representations to this effect, e.g. that the warranty is void if the vehicle is not serviced by the dealer or its agent. You are effectively covered by both warranties. The express warranty may offer you some further cover above and beyond the cover you have under the statutory warranty.
In short - you won't void the warranty as long as you're using genuine and/or genuine spec parts.

Edit: The Express Warranty part threw me off. Perhaps do a Google search on the differences between Statutory and Express Warranties and see if you can make sense of it
