M135i Makes Evo Car of The Year Short List

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I don't know if many people on this forum have read the latest issue of EVO magazine, but the M135i, beloved by many on this forum, actually made the shortlist of the EVO car of the year. I'd be more than glad to post the actual writing on this forum (I've got the digital iPad version, so it's just screenshotting), so if anyone wants to read the whole review, jus lemme know.

In order (from best to worst), according to EVO:

1) Pagani Huayra
1) Lotus Exige V6 (tie)
3) Porsche Boxster S
4) Mclaren MP4-12C
5) Porsche 911 Carrera
6) BMW M135i (8 speed auto)

Other contenders that didn't make the final shootout:

Mercedes C63 AMG Black
Alpina B3 GT3
Morgan 3 Wheeler
Toyota GT 86

It's also interesting to note that the M135i scored the exact same laptime as the B3, and just under a second slower than the C63 AMG. I'm now fully convinced that this little beast is the bargain of the century, even more so than the 1M.

Edit: From one car nut to the rest of the car nuts out there, ENJOY!

Just finished reading my e-copy of EVO, impressed with M135i doing really well there finishing sixth among 10 very good cars, in fact doing better than F10 M5 which couldn't make it among the finalists in 2011 or a M6 which was not even selected for competition this year.

A detail, EVO says they wanted Ferrari 458 Spider and Bugatti Veyron Grand Vitess join the ECOTY both possible winners but at the last minute Bugatti simply sold the two cars allocated for the test and Ferrari just couldn't provide enough cars despite previous committment. So, I am suspecting the podium could be slightly different in case they would be there. They will make a separate comparison between Huayra and Grand Vitesse.

1M was third at last year's ECOTY, only a few points behind McLaren MP4-12C and the winner Porsche 911 4.0 GT3 RS, and ahead of cars like Lotus Elise CR, Porsche Cayman R, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, BMW M5 etc. This year a M135i is doing so good against giants to the point that they call it "the giant slayer". My favourite part; read where they chase a Huayra with the M135i. Little complaints were its controversial looks, lack of lsd and lack of steering feel but everything else was obviously so good...especially so considering its incredible price. I felt that they liked most and were surprised with the 8 speed auto among many merits of the car.

All good news for a future M2 as well and BMW seems to nail it at least with its smaller cars which is very much fine with me

I also like the fact that finally a 911 was not selected by EVO as the winner, the new 911 couldn't even make the podium, like the very British McLaren. This year's results seem to me much more balanced than most years' and fully agree with their hierarchy from what I read about all these cars till now.

I wouldn't post the entire article. If you want to read it, buy the magazine (hard copy of electronic copy). It's the current issue, and this is stealing sales from a great magazine.

Nice to see the BMW do well, I'd love to be able to test one out.

+1. I was wondering this since yesterday; seriously, is it even allowed in this Forum?

While I was reading my copy I told myself that I better hold myself and not post anything about it, since it is kind of like telling everyone the end of a new movie But then I saw this thread and I posted my comments too like others.

My subscription came with a dvd of 2012 ECOTY, not a bad watch of the track action and blast around the northern parts of Scotland....

Awesome, and a likely preview of how the M235i will perform.

This Blyton Park lap times made me wonder if there are any other lap times for the new M135i. I found that it has one on "Hockenheim Short", a 1:15.80 lap. Anyone who wonders how that time fares against other cars can check this link, there are times for various M3s, 135i (coupe 1:17.40, convertible 1:18.70), 1M (1:14.10) etc.

Well... i tried it last week-end. I wasn't convinced at all. Coming from a 130i e82, I found the turbo lag way too big and the driving experience was lacking feeling. The chassis is however superb as well as the engine torque, but I wish it would feel sportier. Same for the electric steering which is even more artificial than my electric one.

Thanks for posting. The last EVO coty mag is one of my treasured possessions. not least because it featured my own car coming in a healthy 3rd.

The M135i seems to be a very worthy car to bear the M badge, criticism about brand dilution notwithstanding.

I thought a DCT option was available for the M135 though?

Impressive performance numbers for the M135. Too bad it's such an ugly car. I though that the E82 was the ugliest car BMW ever made, then the F20 proved me wrong. BMW needs to steal some designers from Audi ASAP!
