Brake pads
Hi all just a quick questions, when did you last change your brake pads?
My f20 was bought in Nov 2015 on 9000 miles, it has asked me to change the front brake now (April) on 13,000 miles. I don't think they have been changed before... any tips or advise on this would be great? |

I assume you're still under warranty so take it to the dealer. In my case the car's computer was a bit off so once they measured the pad thickness and confirmed I didn't need to replace them anytime soon, they recalibrated the computer's wear information and sent me on my way.

It cannot be calibrated - just reset - as you probably already know I have also tried to get a very early warning - still ~8mm pad left - strange.

The brake service life information changed on our 2012 116i after a service at the dealer. The new software calculated the remaining brake life estimation differently.
But the system is rather stupid. If you manage to wear down the brakes completely in 10000 km, and then replace them, the car will still think the next set will last 90 000 km or so. |

Thanks all for your help! I paid £121 for the front break pads and they are saying 16000 miles until the next change. The front are saying 6000, so i assume new break pads last roughly 16k miles? The only problem is the car is 2012 and ONLY done 13k miles.. will need to figure it out as surely the car would have left the factory on 16k...
Anyways... |

The life expectancy og brake pads can vary by a factor of more than 100 between two drivers. One guy can make the pads last the life time of the car, and another can go through two sets in a weekend.
The best way to judge how much brake pad there is left, is to take a wheel off, and do a visual inspection. |
