M135i dilemma

Guys, need some advice.

I currently drive an F21 120d and I enjoy driving the car. My weekly commute is just under 600 miles and I get on average around 48mpg. I have been quietly coveting an M135i for a while now but a key decision point is the cost of running the car. M135i owners, what would you estimate the mpg return to be for this type of commute, which is 90%+ motorway driving?

Thanks in advance

They're very good on motorways; we did Felixstowe from home (about 350 miles) at a good pave and got 35mpg. It dropped to 30ish in France then Germany but I was absolutely gunning it.

It's only when driving hard on back roads that the mpg really dips.
The mpg on long trips is amazing. I'm finding it a genuinely inexpensive car to run overall.

Thanks for the information. On average, how many miles do you get per tank?

About 30 overall but I do a fair bit of rural road blasts. We live in Cornwall.

I'm sure he means 30mpg, rather than 30 miles out of a tank

Oh yes; oops! Just over 300 miles on a tank. 350 if we take it easy.

On the motorway you will get mid to late 30s. I regularly get about 36 mpg n the motorway.

Over almost 50,000k of mostly motorway and non-congested urban driving, my M 135i is averaging 8.01L/100k, which is 35.3 miles per imperial gallon. On pure motorway driving, with aggressive police speed monitoring, I regularly see 6.7L/100k (42mpg), which never fails to amaze me given the on-ramp moment of joy.

Motorways mine gets high 7's-low 8's, best ever was 5.9l/100km Canberra to Syd at 115km/h. Our 320d gets 5-6.8l/100km in similar conditions.

Spirited country driving gets 8.5-9.5 in the M135i, around 7 in the 320d.

Town work nets 11-12 vs 9-9.5.

(conversion is 282/litres per 100 = mpg)

In sensible driving just over 300 miles to the tank... easy if you're largely doing motorway trips. I went to the M135i from a 116D so appreciate the range / fuel costs concerns you forget those soon enough

I have had about 32mpg from my new m135i auto.

However, in real day to day I get about 25 to 28mpg.

If mpg is a concern then a m135i is not going to be your best choice. Especially coming from your 120d.
However, for shear driving pleasure and bags of performance then go for the m135i.

You could wait for the new 140 but why? If you are ready to go now, then just go for it.

Run another car with half the power but uses more fuel (Subaru Outback); it'll make an M135i seem super Eco.
I honestly don't think you'll find better performance with such acceptable real World mpg.

for the performance you get per gallon there is no other car on the market - its basically witchcraft .

On a motorway you should easily get 30 to 35 mpg and you can get a bit more if careful.

as an example i drove late one night along the M4 corridor from London to my home near Cardiff and despite an average speed of 85 miles per hour got 30 mpg - to do 85 miles average speed means i was legging it on a lot of that corridor

It seems to achieve real World good figures.
The "rival" cars like the Golf R/A45/etc are all getting pretty bad mpg despite better factory claims.

I get 15 or so km/h on highway cruise control set at 110 km/h

I get 9.9 l/100 km or 10.1 km/h combined. Spirited twice a week through the mountains.

Tires the car likes PSS or CSC5 9000~11000 km but that depends on how the driving is done I suppose. Clutch for me 47000 km.

Suspension is somewhat softer but more road friendly, I was tempted to change it but after trying my friend's Bilstein PSS something it's too hard and I decided to keep the original. Other than that, BMW LL01 oil.... It's a car I think will become harder and harder to come by with stick and RWD, at least in my area. Just my 2 cents.
