Humans thinking humans can affect the climate either by uncontrolled carbon-spewing consumption (bad) or by policide/enviro genocide as a gain of function for consumption reduction (good) is the actual clown level analytics...

Queue SKYNET!

It’s the end goal, for sure. These early stages are just getting people used to the idea. Reduced consumption is the only way to make any real impact.

Sense may prevail eventually

Spain goes further...

road.cchttps://road.cc/content/news/cycling...ne-2023-302017
In Spain, another right-wing coalition has come under fire for its plans to immediately scrap cycle lanes and low emission zones

In Gijón, a coastal city in north-western Spain, new mayor Carmen Moriyón announced that one of her first acts will be for cars to once again travel through the city “without any type of environmental label”, while restructuring the city’s road policies by dismantling the cycle network.

“From now on, vehicles will have absolute freedom of movement and parking on the streets and roads of Gijón,” Mariyón said.

In London the huge space consuming 'boris bike system' should be scrapped completely and private bike hire firms given a chance to start up for tourists and visitors.

The liability issue is what killed it. No way to blend Level 5 autonomy with Level 0 (humans ). I'll still take humans. Computers fail too much in my book.

There was a thread going on this forum a few years back about autonomous cars not unlike the differences in opinions on this particular thread. Liability was one of the points I was pointing out, challenges with staying in lanes when there's snow etc.

Yeah, besides EV, Autonomy is my second best internet car forum subject.

Having previously worked well over a decade directly with the FAA (read DOT) on implementation of new aircraft surveillance technology, I have a good understanding how the DOT thinks. In those Autonomous Driving threads I routinely posted about once the DOT gets involved and sets safety standards for autonomous driving the development will drop off.

The surface vehicle driving environment is 5x more difficult to automate than the national airspace system. The NAS is incredibly safe to fly in because of the trip planning, traffic surveillance, 3-axis of space, and the multitude of redundant systems in use. And there is no such thing as "AutoPilot" (in the way most of the public thinks it works).

Liability is a bitch.

Refinements have also been made to the powertrain. By reducing the number of STARD UHP 6-phase motors from four to three, and utilizing STARD’s Ultra High Performance Li-Polymer NMC pouch cells, the van achieves an optimal power-to-weight ratio while retaining its all-wheel-drive system with one motor powering the front and two in the rear. With over 1,050 kW (1,400 horsepower) combined discharge power at its disposal, the SuperVan 4.2 can unleash its full potential while also leveraging the battery's new 600 kW regeneration performance for optimal energy utilization.

Inevitably, the chief engineer says, the Tesla owners come over for a quick chat about his new iX5. But, while he doesn’t at all mind taking the time to explain the various intricacies and benefits of his fuel-cell vehicle, by far his favourite part of this interaction is that, three minutes or so into the conversation, he has to apologize with an “Oops, it looks like I’m already full, so that’s me gone, fellas!” “Fool cells” indeed, Elon.

As I have said many times here and elsewhere. I have no issue with EV's they might make a lot of sense for a lot of folks, but why does it have to be all or nothing? My diesel Pick Up makes the most sense for me, PHEV's might make the most sense for others. Fuel Cells might be a great option for others too.

It would be a disaster to limit the ability to buy to EV only. I think EV has a purpose. I do 70-100 miles a day the EV so far seems to do me fine. The IX is a nice living room to sit in. Also I do 300 plus miles when doing long weekends with family and with parents/inlaws etc where I have no time or desire for range anxiety where a land cruiser/GLS/X7 will fit the bill on a 2 car household. As will a hydrogen car come the time. I still feel enforcing EV as an only solution is crazy.

We routinely drive to visit my wife's sister in Burlington, about 350km one way and no place to charge. I can drive my diesel pick up there and back on about 3/4 of a tank. No way an EV would work for me. Plus we need the truck for the regular trips to get stuff for our gardens/property/house.

Your ability to choose might be hitting your local home improvement/hardware store. I was watching a video from Mike Glover where he said his local Home Depot has eliminated all gas powered lawn/yard care equipment. No more gas powered weed whackers, chain saws, etc etc. I checked in with my neighbor who is a manager at my local home depot about this. She says for now they're still selling gas powered lawn/yard care equipment but it wouldn't surprise her if corporate stopped selling them at her store.
