Only made it thru about 1/3 of the yard today so the laboring will resume tomorrow (at least it'll be cooler).

Once that's done (or I run out of dirt....whichever comes first), Humic-12+RGS goes down then starter fert and seed. I'll top dress what I can. For kicks, maybe I'll over seed some parts of the front yard, too. Otherwise, I'll be leaving out sprinklers in the backyard on water timers.

So far, 3 blisters and I got my first mosquito bite of the season. lol
Dethatching is gonna help tremendously. I would use a rake to break down some of the clumping tho with the dirt. how much of the yard are you actually reseeding? oh, what State are you in BTW?

I only know it as a Blooming Lilac but it may be a Bloomerang Lilac (which is a blooming lilac).

The yard is uneven enough where it didn't get everywhere. I raked out a lot of dead grass a couple of months ago. I mainly wanted to scuff up the soil this time. For whatever wasn't scuffed or dethatched, I put soil mix over. I used a metal leaf/lawn rake to clean up some of the stuff that came up (& scuff some areas that the implement missed). Wifey got ahold of my backpack leaf blower and used it to clean up 2/3 of it, though, so I just let it go.....ran thru the last of my fuel mix, too.

It was gonna rain a little tonight so I was first going to see if that helped break down the clumps. It makes me feel better to think that it is similar to core aeration, though. lol My lawn repair will be a multi season/year ordeal. I'll probably buy some Air-8 and D-Thatch. Incidentally, if I go dark/silent for a while later this year....it's because the wife off'ed me after all the effort that's been going into the lawn this season. Also means that all the works didn't reap a great reward. lol

the clumps will break down just like the cores from aeration. i'll end up doing the same thing in the Fall detatch and aerate than throw down the seeds. the cores will help as seed to soil contact. IL you're just next door to me. I think Ryan Knorr is in IL to I believe.

so here's my DIY striping kit made up of boat rollers, quick struts components and misc hardware

And my Red Crape Myrtle is blooming ahead of schedule thanks to the Miracle-Gro stakes I placed back in February! When I planted this last Spring 2018, it had just a handful of blooms. I can tell it will be bursting with flowers soon...

Same for my Orange Rose I planted this spring and placed feeder stake in the ground. It went from a bloom or two, to now @ 6 coming!

I saw a YouTube video about this product that was interesting. Anyone have one or know anyone that has one?

I watched a couple of additional videos and, like anything, there are pros and cons. The biggest negative that made me stop watching and rule out further thinking about it is that they seem to cut grass to 2.5 inches. Maybe there is a newer version that cuts higher but I wasn’t motivated to research further.

Replacing my lawn guy because he cuts the grass too short with a machine that cuts it too short doesn’t seem like a good strategy, particularly when I thought about how I’d still need to deal with the lawn edges and hedge maintenance. Anyway, it’s will be sort of interesting to see how these develop further over time.

Your lawn guy cuts it too short cause if he has to miss a day because of rain it allows him some wiggle room. But if your lawn is use to being cut short it will be fine. I have tall fescue so my grass cut is 4". I like it thick and lush

I think they cut it short because that's what other customers prefer and they don't know any better.

Now is the time to irrigate since it is dry and getting pretty hot. Otherwise lawn will get stressed and burn, inviting weeds and pests. I have mine going 3 days a week right now, which I rarely do. So it still needs to be cut with irrigation. Irrigation can be turned off or cut back to once a week when the rain returns on a regular basis.

I had a few rogue avocados on the tree and thought I'd pick one. Marcus seems to know it's tasty...
